Redragon M808 Storm Pro Review

Software

The software for the Redragon M808 Storm Pro may look basic, but has all the important options. The first page includes button remapping options (mouse, keyboard, media, and macro functions), polling rate adjustment (125/250/500/1000 Hz), and a percentage-based battery life indicator (increments of 10%). The second page allows for CPI adjustment (100–16,000 CPI, increments of 100) for up to five color-coded levels, along with basic Windows pointer settings. The third page houses the macro editor. The fourth page concerns lighting options and is detailed below. Profile management is available, too. All setting changes are saved to the on-board memory, so the software does not need to be running (or be installed) all the time. Settings application will fail once the mouse has entered sleep mode, which happens rather quickly, so it may be necessary to move the mouse a bit after applying setting changes. On my system, the software had a RAM footprint of 16 MB on average when running in the foreground, which doesn't change when minimized, be it to the taskbar or the system tray. Upon exiting the application, all processes are terminated, as they should be.

Lighting

The M808 Storm Pro has three physical zones for RGB lighting, which are the two strips at the sides and scroll wheel. Three lighting effects are available: Streaming, Respiration, and Steady. Transition speed and LED brightness can be customized further, along with colors. Of course, disabling the lighting altogether is also possible.

Color accuracy and vibrancy are very good throughout. Here's a short demonstration video in which I go through the Streaming, Respiration, and Steady lighting effects:

Battery Life

Redragon gives no indication whatsoever about battery life expectancy. The M808 Storm Pro features a battery life indicator with double-digit accuracy (i.e., steps of 10%), which enables me to roughly gauge expected battery life. After continually using the M808 Storm Pro at a polling rate of 1000 Hz and with RGB lighting fully enabled for roughly 12 hours, the battery life indicator stood at 40%, which indicates an estimated battery life of roughly 20 hours at these settings. It is reasonable to assume that without illumination, battery life may exceed 50 hours.

After not moving the mouse for a short amount of time, the M808 Storm Pro enters a sleep state from which it can be woken up by either moving the mouse or clicking any button.

Using the included USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable, I've measured the charging speed of the M808 Storm Pro during the constant current (bulk) stage to be around 0.235 A. With the charging cable plugged in, the scroll wheel lights up in a color denoting the current charge state. Though the sticker on the battery prevents me from simply reading the capacity specification, battery size alone suggests a capacity in excess of 500 mAh.
