You will not have to unscrew anything to access the interior. Simply slide both locks over to pull the top cover off. You may also remove the bottom half to reveal the four screw mounting positions for the hard drive or SSD. While the casing is made of metal, the interior utilizes plastic.


You will find a compact PCB and a small plastic spacer within the RDEE-12002. All the aforementioned connectors and the LED can be found on this small circuit board. A standard SATA connector is used to attach any drive to it, and an ASMEDIA ASM1051e has been picked to take care of SATA to USB 3.0 communication. The interesting aspect is the fact that this IC offers an internal SATA 6Gbps standard, which is unlike most other units out there that make do by combining SATA II internals with USB 3.0. We will see if this makes a big difference in achievable performance later on.


Installing the test SSD within the enclosure requires the use of a screwdriver after all, which is a shame as Rosewill chose a tool-less locking mechanism for the casing itself. Simply slide the casings back over the plastic tray and lock it down once you have secured the SSD with four screws.

When connected, the enclosure's LED lights up quite bright to let you know all is in order.
