Rosewill Tachyon 750 W Review

Packaging

The package is of medium size and features a plastic handle on top. The front has an image of the PSU with the fan grill in the foreground. Next to it are the model description and a series badge for its modular cables, Platinum efficiency, and warranty. While Rosewill states that this unit has a five-year warranty, it is said to have seven years on Newegg's product page. They probably decided to offer two additional years, but couldn't change the information on the package in time.

The sides only have the series description and Rosewill's name.

Here are a features list, four tables with power specifications, and a table describing all available connectors.

Contents

Surrounded by packing foam inside the box, the PSU is also wrapped in plastic for additional protection. Next to it resides a plastic pouch with all the modular cables.

The bundle includes the necessary modular cables, a pouch for the storage of all unused cables, an AC power cord, several zip ties, the user's manual, and a set of fixing bolts.

Exterior

The PSU's black coating is close to glossy, which easily attracts fingerprints. The on/off switch is installed under the AC receptacle at the front, and there is no switch for a semi-passive operation, unlike the retail SF Platinum units. Both sides are clean, with no decals. The Tachyon's modular sockets at the rear are covered by silicone caps, and its cable-exit hole features a grommet to protect all affixed cabled from sharp edges. The specifications label has been installed on it underside.

Its dimensions are larger than those of other 750 W units, but you won't have any problems since most cases support 172 mm long PSUs. The octagonal fan grill is nice, but this unit looks rather dull overall due to its lack of decals. There could also be less native cables since the second EPS connector will most likely be left unused.

All cables are fully sleeved but not stealth. We would also prefer flat cables instead of round ones. Such details are real tell-tale signs of this unit having been around for a while.
