Web Interface

Shuttle's web interface isn't as elegant as QNAP's and Synology's and doesn't have as many features, but it addresses a completely different crowd and its simplicity won't scare the average home user who only needs a NAS box for some basic tasks.


You will be taken to the main screen of the administration interface once you input the right password (it is left blank by default) and pick your operating language. Shuttle also included a firmware upgrade notification in their OS to provide users with an alert once one is available.


We updated the firmware before proceeding with testing. The procedure was rather easy and didn't take long.

Settings Options

The "Settings" menu also has the network settings to assign a static IP to the NAS. There is a tab for the settings of the built-in Wi Fi card, which allows the KD22 to act as a hot-spot. These settings also allow you to access all Date & Time options, check the system log, perform a factory reset, update the firmware of the NAS, and enable the FTP service. We were happy to see that Shuttle integrated a Live Update option into the firmware-update function, the lack of which we took a note of in the KD20 review.

Storage Options

The Storage menu provides access to the Disk- and RAID managers and the auto-mirror function, which can only be enabled in RAID 1.


If you connect an external USB storage device, it will will show up in the Disk Manager. You can unfortunately only format it to its existing file system as there is no option to select another. Shuttle should look into this.

Share Options

This menu allows you to add shared folders and users, or a user list you can assign permissions to.

USB Options

There are two tabs, with options through which you can check on the status of connected printers. You can also enable/disable the auto-copying function to an SD card or an external USB device here.
