SilverStone LD03-AF Review - Improving on the Original

A Closer Look - Inside

You won't need any tools to access the interior of the SilverStone LD03-AF. To do so, first pull off the glass front. With that done, you may pull the sides off by detaching two push pins each. Doing so gives you unrestricted access to the interior from three sides. Taking a look at the panel with the air vent, you can see that it comes with a fine mesh filter you may pop out should you want to clean it—pretty cool!

When viewed from the front, you can see the motherboard area in the top half of the system configuration, while the side of the GPU allows for long units to be installed, which avoids issues with big cards for, say, potent gaming. On the other side, once the HDD plate is removed, you have easy access to any headers and the SFX PSU.

Underneath the PSU, the SFX frame is simple but effective, and you have a choice of a compact SFX unit or slightly larger and more affordable SFX-L variant instead without having to worry about blocking your GPU by doing so. The LD03-AF may hold up to two drivers on the mounting plate. These could either be two 2.5" variants or one 3.5" and one 2.5" unit.

On the floor is a 120 mm Air Penetrator fan with a PWM connector, set to pull cool air in. Interesting is definitely the opening to the left as it allows you to slide a long GPU through and straight into place. Because of this opening, you can easily go for a long graphics card of up to 309 mm without issue, which is certainly a nice touch. Towards the top, you can clearly see the ITX motherboard area featuring another 120 mm fan. This one pushes air out the top of the case, so the two cooling units build an upward funnel to keep things as cool as possible within the LD03-AF.

All the cables within the SilverStone LD03-AF are of the default variety and short enough not to get in the way terribly when assembling the system. To make things a little easier, both USB cables are flat, thus allowing for slightly easier cable management. Great is also that you get a fan splitter cable because it allows you to connect both included case fans to a single motherboard header, especially as most ITX boards only have a limited number of those.
