Value and Conclusion

  • Decent value for money
  • Two available finishes with different finishes and wooden cups
  • Deliberately tuned V-shaped signature appeals to the mainstream audience
  • Good synergy with different music genres, including EDM, heavy metal, and rock
  • Imaging is quite good, albeit mostly in front
  • Soundstage fairly wide for closed-back sets
  • Very easy to drive off most sources
  • Nice build quality and aesthetics for the price range
  • Detachable cable connectors
  • Not very resolving most of the way
  • Technical performance is mediocre in general
  • Ear cups have no horizontal swivel, which can affect fit and seal
  • Upper mids can come off artificially bright, while treble feels too damped
  • Near-proprietary pad design, and ear pads aren't available for separate purchase
  • Minor sound leakage from the ear pads
The Sivga Robin (SV021) has become somewhat of a sleeper hit owing to a few social media influencers claiming these to be the best headphones ever for the money. Of course, this meant a few audiophile and data-driven press members and influencers went the other way and put these down owing to the weak resolution. As with most things today, the truth is somewhere in between. Sivga is targeting a market that cares about value-oriented headphones that look premium, feel cool, and sound good. The "good" here usually translates to a bass-heavy tuning, as it belongs in a V-shaped tuning, which is the case here, too. This V-shaped tuning emphasizes the bass and treble region at the expense of the middle frequencies, and Sivga managed to quench the treble response as well, which effectively makes this a one-trick pony.

As such, the Sivga Robin ends up being good at what it claims to do, but not very good at everything it claims to be. You need to be absolutely sure this is the set for you, especially if you are the type to include brand recognition in your purchasing decision. Knowing what Sivga is going for, this is a decently tuned set, but don't expect magic from it, either. It just happens to also best the other two closed-back sets in this price range that I have on hand, which does not mean there aren't better options out there. I see a lot of good here, but also some shortcomings in even the fit and finish, which would have perhaps tipped the balance. As it turns out, I am not quite swaying toward a recommendation and hope to see an updated or tweaked Robin with a different chassis addressing the main complaints here. There is certainly a good base to build upon, and the market recognition is ultimately what Sivga would want, too.
