DiskStation Manager 4.2 Tour. Part#3
Checking for and updating DSM is very easy since there is an option that allows you to automatically check for DSM updates.
You can set application privileges through this options.
The Application Portal allows you to configure every application's connection setting, which allows you to run the application in an independent browser window without logging into DSM. These connection settings include customizing portal aliases and HTTP or HTTPS ports.
The Syslog client can be enabled and configured from here. It allows you to send logs over the Internet to another Syslog server. Having a Syslog server setup gives an IT administrator effortless monitoring capabilities, a status overview of all network devices via one interface for an immediate response to a problem or malfunction.
PPTP and OpenVPM connections are supported by DSM.
The NAS's media indexing service automatically scans for multimedia files stored on it and indexes them. You can set the thumbnail quality and monitor its conversion progress.
The network backup option allows you to back data up to the NetBackup folder on another Synology NAS, or an rsync-compatible server.
You are able to create a rich variety of scheduled tasks through this option.
The Resource Monitor allows you to monitor system resources. You can monitor resources in real time or view bygone data.
The system information option in the control panel provides useful information about the NAS, like the software version, operating time, thermal status, its mounted HDDs, running services, all current connections, etc.
