To measure Wireless Signal Quality, we use a Signal Hound BB60C Spectrum Analyzer (SA) equipped with a suitable Aaronia antenna. We must note here that the BB60C is an affordable SA; however, couple it with the Spike software and it can put much more expensive signal analyzers to shame.
We also utilize a MacBook Pro (late 2013 model) with the NetSpot app, which allows us to analyze Wi-Fi coverage. Both measurements (SA and MacBook Pro with NeSpot) are conducted in an environment clear of other Wi-Fi signals. The SA is placed six meters away from the router with two thick walls in between, while the MacBook is 12 meters away with four thick walls between the laptop and the router.
Synology's router does pretty well against Asus's router on 2.4 GHz band, but the wireless signal gets very weak once the distance between the router and the client increases on 5 GHz band.
