Installation


To install the Thermaltake V1 heatsink, the motherboard was removed from the case but not from the motherboard tray. Since the V1 will be tested on an Intel CPU, the two sets of LGA775 push-pins and four small screws were needed. Each bracket was attached to the base with two of the screws.


Thermal compound was added according to the manufacturer's directions and the V1 was placed on top of the CPU. The push-pins were lined up over the motherboard holes and pressed into place.


Immediately the heatsink was removed to inspect the contact. The thermal compound had spread out evenly and there were no issues.


The CPU and the base of the V1 were cleaned and the compound was reapplied. With the heatsink reinstalled the only remaining step was to attach the fan to the motherboard header.


Before placing the motherboard tray back into the case the area was inspected for compatibility problems. For the most part, any problems will probably vary depending on the motherboard being used. In this case, the Asus P5W-DH Deluxe had no problems at all with stock heatsinks or other components around the CPU socket. The V1 was installed with the fan blowing upward which prevented any overhang off the top edge of the board.
