A Closer Look

Out of the box and protective bag, the Wemax Nova is quite compact. Weighing less than 8 kg, it is certainly lightweight for UST projectors out there. Our recently reviewed XGIMI Aura clocks in at nearly double the weight with 15 kg and also takes up twice the room overall. Thus, the Wemax Nova is perfect for those who want to have a compact and stylish projector.

The front consists of a grille behind which the four-speaker setup is embedded. The Wemax Nova uses two 10 W full-range speakers and a pair of 5 W tweeters for a total of 30 watts. It makes sense for all of these to be facing the user as the UST projector will be mere inches from the wall. The rear is completely straight as well, and the I/O panel has been recessed to keep things clean visually. It includes three HDMI 2.0, one of which is ARC capable. Next to these is a single USB 2.0 port, an audio output jack, composite Input, SPDIF optical out, and an Ethernet port for wired connectivity.

Both sides have vents through which the fans of the Wemax Nova will push out hot air. Towards the rear of the device is a wheel to adjust the height of the rear foot and another USB 2.0 port. Placing such a connector here is quite handy as you don't need to lean over the light source to get to it.

The opposite side looks identical and has a scroll wheel for the adjustment of the foot on this side. There are no further plugs here.

As the Wemax Nova is an ultra short throw projector, the embedded light source is angled up. Two infrared sensors, one on either side of the light, ensure that the projector goes into a safeguard mode as soon as it detects any movement above the projector. Lastly, a subtle power button has been placed on the right corner facing the user, so turning the unit on and off is easily done. By placing it on top of the housing, there is a lower chance of you moving the projector accidentally when toggling its power state.

The underside of the projector holds the model and safety stickers. From this angle, you can also see the two adjustable feet on the bottom next to the openings for the speaker system.

Wemax opted for no tangible company branding on the unit. The front only holds a generic emblem to let the user know what resolution the projector is capable off. Other brands employing the same housing may put their brand logo here instead. On top of the housing is the phrase "beam into the future," which is a bit of a slogan for Wemax.
