XGIMI Aura Ultra Short Throw 4K Laser Projector Review

Introduction

XGIMI Logo

XGIMI is a bit of an upstart to the projector world, so much so that the company's first projector is barely 7 years old. Since then, it has diversified the product lineup with a variety of portable offerings, including the MOGO PRO+ and Halo in addition to the newer Halo+ and ultraportable Elfin. Suffice it to say, the XGIMI brand has left enough of an impression on two separate TechPowerUp editors that we were all the more curious about XGIMI's home projector line represented here by the Horizon Pro. That was impressive enough, but then came news of XGIMI's own ultra short throw (UST) laser projector—the Aura.

Portable projectors, and even standalone home/office projectors, have thus far never come close to replacing a proper TV experience for me. The lower ANSI lumens, having to consider placement further away from the viewing screen/wall with the associated cable management, or even the need to get a screen to compensate for the projector limitations have kept me from never really considering a projector as a full-time TV replacement. 4K would be a must, and smart features would make it all the better. More importantly, laser projectors were coming in strong from brands established and new alike, with UST projectors aiming to finally be proper contenders to televisions. Thanks to XGIMI for arranging a review sample for TechPowerUp as we aim to find out whether the XGIMI Aura does the job.
