Value & Conclusion

  • The Xigmatek Aquila with a window will go for around 85 euros, while the variant with a solid side panel will set you back around 75 euros. US readers will have to fork over a lot more as the chassis is listed at 129 US dollars, which obviously excludes taxes.
  • Very good construction quality
  • Micro-ATX in a fairly compact chassis
  • Should be able to hold water-cooling rigs
  • Large CPU coolers will fit
  • Standard ATX-sized PSU bay
  • Long GPUs will fit
  • Tilted case frame pretty cool
  • Large, tinted window
  • Dust filter on all intake areas
  • USB 3.0 to 2.0 adapter included
  • Removable dust filter
  • All-black cabling
  • Available in black or white
  • Very expensive in the US
  • More expensive than the competition in the EU
  • Same frame available from numerous other brands
  • Only one fan included
  • Basic I/O
  • No external 3.5" drive and no 3.5" drive frame included
  • Tiny power LED on side
  • Our sample was covered in a weird substance and had a bent side panel
The Xigmatek Aquila does have two thing going for it: quality and a timeless look, which other companies that use the same body may not really manage to deliver on, and while everything is easily installed and you do get some great compatibility with larger GPUs and CPU coolers and the ability to install fans or a radiator into the Aquila's ceiling, other brands offer the same. Those other brands also tend to do so at a slightly lower price as their golden middle between functionality and space sacrificed fares better. The Aquila is missing a second fan, a more expansive I/O, and the 3.5" drive bay, which are all things they could have easily included. On top of that, though, Xigmatek has chosen to modify the top panel, eliminating the possibility to install fans without sacrificing the only external drive bay. Those are things you unfortunately cannot upgrade yourself, which makes putting the chassis above those by the competition difficult. We can only recommend the Aquila due to its better construction quality in Europe as the price difference between the Aquila and its competition is not very large. But, being much more expensive in the US, other—completely different—cube cases may be more interesting overall.
