A Closer Look - Outside

Considering the price tag of the chassis, Xigmatek has made the case look good with the quite detailed front panel. The orange metal mesh adds some much needed color and depth to the case to make it stand out a bit more. In terms of construction quality, the case is right up the alley with most other competitors, but the plastic does feel a bit soft in some spots.


To save on cost, the case only uses a front panel to give the chassis its distinctive look and feel. The case's rear looks quite basic with its break-out covers and a lack of unnecessary extras. Both side panels are completely flat, but the main panel has two large air vents that can hold two 120 or 140 mm fans.


Taking a closer look at the front, the bottom consists of plastic and the orange sheet of metal mesh that has been placed behind the front panel. Also, Xigmatek's logo has been put on top of the front panel. Above that are the three 5.25" bays. Each one has its own procuring cover, which adds some further depth and design to the case.


Turning the Asgard 381 around, you will find the PSU bay on the bottom. It has two sets of mounting holes, so you may choose to install a unit with the fan facing up or down. Above that are the seven standard expansion slots, each of which is protected by a break-out cover. This has a distinctive SI flair, as you will end up with gaping holes if you free up a previously used expansion slot within the Asgard 381. In the very top is a single 120 mm exhaust unit with orange blades and a black frame. As you can see, there are no holes for water cooling tubes, but such holes are not needs in a case of this price category.


Xigmatek has located the I/O of the Asgard 381 on the top edge of the front panel. You will find two USB 3.0 ports and the usual pair of audio connectivity here.


Unfortunately, our sample suffered from some blemishes with paint having come off the side panel. While this is quite unfortunate and should certainly not happen, such mishaps are clearly covered by the warranty.
