On-device Settings

The on-device customization on the M8 Wireless works in the same way as on the M4 Wireless, M42 Wireless, and MZ1 Wireless. The concept is simple: Adjustments are made either through button combinations or the button on the bottom of the mouse, the function of which varies depending on the current position of the slider on the bottom. If set to the highest position, the mouse will be turned off unless plugged in. Any other position will turn the mouse on. The next position allows one to cycle through the preset CPI steps. The third position enables cycling through the available polling rates (125, 500, or 1000 Hz). Lastly, with the slider moved all the way to the bottom, main button debounce time (2, 4, 8, or 12 ms) can be cycled through. Irrespective of the current slider position, MotionSync (enable/disable) and lift-off distance (1 or 2 mm) can be adjusted through button combinations.

Battery Life

Xtrfy states a maximum battery life of 75 hours. No details are given about which polling rate has been used to achieve this figure, but a polling rate of 1000 Hz seems likely. As the Xtrfy M8 Wireless lacks software, one could assume that checking the battery charge status is impossible, but that is not the case. Instead, by holding the side buttons and left button for a few seconds, the current charge status will be displayed in a corresponding color, in 25% steps. Of course, this isn't granular enough to gauge anything, but at least gives one an idea of when charging may be needed. For the record, after 10 hours of continuous use at 1000 Hz, I only ever got to see the green color, which indicates a battery status of 75–100%.

Using the included USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable, I also measured the charging speed during the constant current stage. When lifted, 0.304 A can be measured, which drops to 0.272 A when not lifted. The battery has a capacity of 300 mAh.
