Introduction

Yakuza 0 was first released for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 in late 2015. With the series having seen its debut in 2005, it is one of many Yakuza titles.

Yakuza 0 is set in the 1980s and tells the story of two crime family members, Kiryu and Majima, who are looking to gain rank in the Japanese mafia. Gameplay follows a style that's similar to GTA and Sleeping Dogs, with combat being closer to what Batman Arkham Knight offered, i.e., melee fights with combos and hit chains.

The game engine uses DirectX 11 and offers post-processing features like FXAA, render scale, and supersampling. As far as we know, the game doesn't uses tessellation or other advanced rendering techniques. Its hardware requirements are modest, which isn't surprising given this was originally a PS3 title.

In this performance review, we put Yakuza Zero through our selection of contemporary graphics cards backed by the latest optimized drivers on our VGA test system. We measure the game's performance across various screen resolutions, investigate VRAM usage, and even test the game's multi-core CPU performance scaling.
