In today's review, we take a look at a NAS with huge storage potential because it can take up to eight drives. On top of that, you can attach another two expansion units for ten more drives because of its two SATA ports! The DS1819+ could be the ideal server for video editors looking to store all of their RAW footage for quite a while, as they may need to reuse it.

The DS1819+ isn't affordable, but its features partly justify the high asking price, while the excellent DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system justifies the rest. As we have been stating in almost all of our NAS reviews, in this market segment, the hardware isn't the only thing you should care about because a NAS is useless without the proper software. Companies like Synology and QNAP have devoted years and, consequently, lots of money to developing their corresponding operating system, along with their performance enhancing software applications for various categories; i.e., security, backup, VPN, etc. As such, pricing of their NAS servers inevitably covers some of the software development cost.
