Hynix Introduces High Performance DDR4 DRAM

Hynix Semiconductor Inc. ('Hynix') today announced that it has developed 2Gb(Gigabit) DDR4 DRAM and DDR4 DRAM based 2GB(Gigabyte) ECC-SODIMM(Error Check & Correction Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module) applying its leading 30nm class process technology. The DDR4 DRAM product meets the JEDEC standard and the module product is designed for the micro server.

DDR4 DRAM is a next generation memory product which consumes less electronic power while it transfers data as twice as faster than the existing DDR3 DRAM. The device works at the industry's fastest speed of 2400Mbps(Megabits per second), which is also 80% faster than DDR3 1333Mbps product. The Module product operates at such a low voltage of 1.2V and processes up to 19.2 GB (Gigabytes) of data per second with a 64-bit I/O.
"The DDR4 products fully support various demanding features including eco-friendly, energy efficient, high performance." said Mr. Ji-Bum Kim, Chief Marketing Officer of Hynix. "With this product, Hynix will be able to provide premium solutions to our customers not only in the PC and server but also in the tablet market."

Hynix plans to start volume production of this high performance DDR4 product in the second half of 2012.

According to market research firm, iSuppli, the portion of the DDR4 DRAM is expected to increase from 5% in 2013 to over 50% in 2015 and become a mainstream in the market. While the demand DDR3 DRAM will reach its peak in 2012 with 71% portion and will eventually decrease to 49% in 2014.

So pc ddr4 will be like GDDR4 - same thing as 3 just running faster...I like the low volts tho...

Didn't GDDR4 suck and was pretty much abandonded shortly after launch?

"2400Mbps(Megabits per second), which is also 80% faster than DDR3 1333Mbps product" but its 20% slower than a DDR3 2900Mbps! Who measure RAM like that? Or at the very least tell us what a 2000MHz DDR3 outputs in Mbps.

GDDR =/= DDR, there are differences between the two. Timing sounds round about right too. I am forseeing an AM4+ socket in the future, supporting Bulldozer and DDR4.

Same here, but I'm predicting AMD to avoid triple-channel RAM and move straight to quad-channel DDR4 for AM4+.

There are no such thing as 2000Mhz DDR3 yet. You need to first understand what DDR means.

FourstaffEither I have horrible eyes, or I don't get what you are saying. Triple channel DDR3 is only used by x58 in the consumer side, and even Intel is moving back to the dual and quad channel RAM, so I am rather lost on why AMD would ever go down the tri channel route.

I agree AMD avoiding tri channel is obvious, I'm just predicting the first quad channel we'll see (for consumers) from AMD is in AM4/AM4+.

That memory is actually 2000MT/s or 2000Mbps and thus running an I/O clock of 1000Mhz and the actual memory clock is 250Mhz ;)
DDR memory are often (actually almost always) incorrectly advertised.

Everyone cares about proper specs, such as professional companies like Hynix do.

Actually, I think 2004 on the ddr2. I read an article a year or so ago that said DDR5 would follow DDR4 rather quickly, but I don't know how quicky it was.

Seems to me ram DDR4 ram will be faster than necessary. Software companies really need to catch up to hardware.

From that i would say as far as hynix goes no, if they are not starting volume production until the second half of 2012 and i don't see any other company beating them to it by the best part of a year, months maybe.

The fact isuppli expects DDR4 to have 5% of the market in 2013 i would not expect any company to be producing products with DDR4 in 2011 and nothing much until later on in 2012.

:( I want 4.20ghz DDR4 for my next upgrade not in like 5+ more upgrades.

I think a lot of sites used this image in articles about DDR4

I think this has given many people the idea that it wont be out until 2015.

Really right now there is not much need for DDR4, dual channel DDR3 1600mhz and above is plenty of bandwidth for most and for those who need more triple and soon quad channel should be plenty for them.

I just want DDR4 as I'm a whore :laugh: I'm still on 1066mhz DDR2 so i have plenty of room to upgrade with DDR3.

DDR3 was released when DDR2 was mainstream also.
That is just the way it works, and it does not mean DDR3 is going anywhere soon.
