Samsung to Show Off 31.5-inch Ultra HD Monitor, 98-inch Video Wall at IFA

Samsung is going into IFA 2013 with a gargantuan lineup of displays and consumer electronics, two of which are bound to grab eyeballs by the bunch. The first of the two is a 31.5-inch ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels native resolution) PC monitor. Given its only other known specification, it will be geared more toward graphics professionals, than gamers. The display is said to offer 99 percent coverage of Adobe RGB colorspace. The other big (literally) display product on Samsung's booth will be a huge 98-inch video-wall, which is also ultra HD-capable. Video walls make for good commercial boards.

Interesting but...

It's good to see that more manufacturers are pushing for 4K monitors. I just hope that they can make panels that have 60Hz or higher and still sell for a reasonable price. Say no more than 1500.I hope!

So slap 3 monitors together in portrait and call it a "wall". Yeah, no.

I am not sure if I should be worried about Samsung using porn stars, or you able to identify pornstars :o

So when can we expect UHD to to come to consumers (Less than £300 a pop)?

a frameless version would do.. (at least there where the screens are supposed to touch)

Good to see Samsung getting into the Ultra-HD monitor game. Hopefully we'll see costs go down to something reasonable ($1500 or less) in the not too distant future.

Most video walls are comprised of multiple screens. The only alternative that I'm aware of is to use a projector, but that doesn't really work for advertising and such where you'd have people passing directly in front of the screen and even stopping in front of it.

Well, the person's name is in the image. I assume they probably thought "Oh, hey, that person is hot, I'll look up that name to find more pictures of them." and then realized that they are a pornstar?

IGZO panel will be ok used car level of expensive, The asus UHD have gone on sale for 30000 NOK (aprox. 5000 USD) here, this probably wont be any cheaper (but i am hoping).

The UHD screens prpbably wont come down in price before someone makes a panel without the IGZO tek.

Eh, this is Samsung, they won't be using a Sharp IZGO panel. Samsung generally charge considerably less than Sharp for equivalent panels, when supplying them to third parties, but as this'll be a first party product, who knows if they'll choose to go for a similar price and have a tiny production run at gigantic margins, or significantly undercut it and create a much larger market.

IZGO isn't inherently expensive. Theoretically, some aspects of production are cheaper. It's just very early in its lifetime with miniscule production capacity.
