SanDisk Unveils World's Fastest 1TB UHS-I microSD Card

As consumer demand for high-quality content continues to rise, Western Digital Corp. is enabling a bigger, faster experience with new industry-leading solutions that give consumers the best combination of performance and capacity so they can do more with the rich content they capture. At Mobile World Congress, the company is showcasing the world's fastest 1TB UHS-I microSD flash memory card, the 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card. The new card features higher speed and capacity for capturing and moving massive amounts of high-quality photos and videos on smartphones, drones and action cameras. These impressive levels of capacity and speed give consumers the ability to create all the content they want without worrying about space limitations or long transfer times.

Today's smartphones and cameras allow consumers to create high-quality content in the palm of their hands, thanks to features like multi-lenses, burst mode capabilities and the 4K resolution. Western Digital continues to deliver the most advanced solutions to ensure consumers can reliably capture and share a special moment or create video content for personal or professional use.
"People trust SanDisk-brand cards to capture and preserve their world. Our goal is to deliver the best possible experience so consumers can share the content that's important to them," said Brian Pridgeon, director of marketing for SanDisk-branded products, Western Digital.

Designed to help move tons of high-quality content faster than ever, the 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSD card reaches speeds up to 160 MB/s. This new card allows consumers to transfer files in nearly half the time over standard UHS-I microSD cards currently on the market. The cards reach these record-breaking speeds by leveraging Western Digital's proprietary flash technology. The new SanDisk Extreme card will also be available in 512GB* capacity, and will feature the A2 specification for launching and loading apps at blazing speeds. The 1TB and 512GB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSD cards are available for pre-order now on SanDisk.com, and will be available at select retailers in April 2019. The cards will be priced at U.S. MSRPs of $449.99 and $199.99, respectively.

What would one use these for? Most tablets/phones don't "officially" support 256GB, let alone 512GB/1TB..

At that price can they certify this card will pass more than just a couple airport xray machines before dieing? So far only Samsung certifies their cards and after... a bit of xraying they are still going. Every other card I've owned died and had to be replaced on warranty, but lose most of what is on it.

They do I am current using my 512GB samsung evo micro sd on my phone. It would format it just fine. Though many phones don't really use sd card as internal storage though.

TheLostSwedeBackup, backup and backup...
Yes indeed, cloud backups have saved me more than once when traveling and honestly is much preferred to having electronics confiscated at borders for inspection which is a fact of life now in this world (not often, but you'll know when it happens to you). However sometimes big backups can be unwieldy to do on the road with poor connectivity.

For sure and I have had one of my cards wiped by an x-ray machine as well, but that's a long time ago now. However, that was before Google Photos were doing auto backups of pictures...

It's just one of those things that kind of happen these days in the background thankfully, as long as you have an adequate data connection...

At least there would be space for all the cat pictures..

If I wouldn't be old school and listening to mp3 on my phone, even the 64GB card which I currently have, is overkill for me.

PSIO might just have became possible to have a full PSX library installed, and my Wii & Wii U projects just got a significant boost as well.

Granted, but why a MicroSD? Why not a standard size SD card?

Yesterday this card was available for pre-order at at least one online vendor for $470, today, at the same vendor, and another, the price has magically jumped to $564! The card isn't even supposed to be available until early April, as far as I know. Am I looking at a $1000 price tag by that time?

not really slow, I have 2 of them, one for laptop and 1 for phone, both are PNY Elite 256gb cards. Both will do around 60-70mb write speeds.

You are mistaken. I have a Nexus 5 and it has a microsd. Fairly certain most of the rest do too.
It seems I was mistaken. Just went and looked, it does not. Suddenly remembered why I never liked the damn thing. I was thinking of my old Motorola.

there's a hack to add one. but it's not there by default AFAIK. odd. if it came like that you are lucky. part of the whole nexus branding and guidelines is simplicity and that means no card slots since google wants you to use google drive and their cloud services.
