Electronic Arts Announces the Return of Dead Space

Motive, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), today announced during EA Play Live 2021 the sci-fi classic survival horror game, Dead Space, will be returning as a remake completely rebuilt from the ground up. Dead Space is being developed exclusively for next generation consoles and PC, raising the level of horror and immersion to unprecedented heights for the franchise through stunning visuals, audio and controls powered by the Frostbite game engine. Fans will experience an improved story, characters, gameplay mechanics and more as they fight to survive a living nightmare aboard the desolate mining starship, the USG Ishimura, all while uncovering the dreadful mystery of what happened to the slaughtered crew and ship.

"The Dead Space franchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game," said Phillippe Ducharme, Senior Producer of Dead Space. "We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next-gen consoles excited everyone on the team. As we look to modernize the game, we've reached out to dedicated fans and invited them to provide us with feedback since the early stages of production to deliver the Dead Space game they want and for new players to enjoy as well."
In Dead Space, Isaac Clarke is an everyman engineer on a mission to repair a vast, sprawling starship, the USG Ishimura, only to discover something has gone horribly wrong. The ship's crew has been slaughtered and infected by some alien scourge...and Isaac's beloved partner, Nicole, is lost somewhere on board. Now Isaac is alone with only his tools and engineering skills as he attempts to uncover the nightmarish mystery of what happened aboard the Ishimura. Trapped with hostile creatures called "necromorphs", Isaac faces a battle for survival, not only against the escalating terrors of the ship, but his own crumbling sanity.

Dead Space will be available worldwide on PlayStationⓇ5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Another month another remaster. AAA gaming industry is creatively bankrupt.

I'd play the remaster. Loved the original enough to do it all again.

Nice! From time to time EA makes the right choices.
Hope they change the 3rd one though. Make it more scary.

its a reboot not a remaster, although a remastered collection of the three games would be nice as they are still great games

Hope it turns out good but Motive makes me wonder. Quite a few people that developed Mass Effect: Andromeda got transferred to Motive after the release of Andromeda when EA shut down Bioware Montreal. I will see how it progresses. I will probably like it anyway just because it's Dead Space.

Andromeda's problems stemmed from the difficult to work with Frostbite engine, seeing this Dead Space reboot will also be powered by frostbite is a concern for sure, but i guess they must have overhauled that engine since then because EA had lots of negative press because their game devs struggled with that engine which results in messy games, seeing their stubbornness to still use it outside FPS games is tiring, but we'll see

I meant I hope they don't make a game like the 3rd one, since it's more of an action game. Remaster of the first and second would be awesome indeed.

DS1 and DS2 were the best. EA announced that there would be no DS4 since DS3 didn't make enough money. I don't understand EA's position on this because DS3 sold 6 million copies.

After it was all said and done the gameplay was stable, it was the story and characters, and character designs, that killed that game, for me at least, and you can blame that on the time wasted on the engine, but it is not reassuring to know that some of the same people will be working on the characters and story for this remake.

One day I will buy and play that game, I think about it every time there is a sale.

If you are referring to Dead Space 3 it is on sale for 75% off on Steam right now. If you find that you don't like it you're only out $5.

A remake of a game by a completely different studio is a recipe for disaster. In the absolute best case scenario the game will be identical, just updated from a technical point of view. In the worst case scenario... I don't even want to think about it. And it's so pathetic to think that they killed Visceral games with their own hands only to go back years later to their IP.

According to what I've read this will be a remake from the ground up so there is a lot that can go wrong but it's too early to tell right now.

The plot sounds like a rip off of the Alien series of movies.
Just change the engineers name to Ripley.
