Seasonic Shows ATX 3.0 and PCIe Gen5 PSUs, MagFlow Fans, and Goes Industrial at Computex 2023

Seasonic had a lot to show at Computex 2023, including its full range of power supply units from the PRIME, VERTEX, and FOCUS series, that are now fully compliant with ATX 3.0 and PCIe Gen 5 specifications. In addition, Seasonic also had its new MagFlow ARGB fans on display, and a wide range of high efficiency industrial PSUs.

Seasonic's PRIME, VERTEX, and FOCUS series were front and center at the Computex showcase, and those high power PSUs with Gold, Platinum, and Titanium efficiency ratings will be equipped with 12VHPWR connectors, meet the latest graphics card requirements, and feature both modular and recognizable stamped cable design. The star of the show were obviously the PRIME PX-1600, PRIME Fanless TX-700, and the FOCUS SPX-750, which is a compact SFX PSU with modular design.
Seasonic was also showcasing its MagFlow fans with magnetic daisy chaining capability, and these will now also be available with ARGB lighting. The MagFlow ARGB are 120 mm fluid dynamic bearing fans with patented design and shock absorbing pads, and capable of providing 63.33 CFM of airflow as they spin between 600 and 2000 RPM and producing 9.9 to 33.78 dBA of noise. Seasonic is also pushing into new markets with industrial PSUs that have high reliability, wide operating temperature, compliance with international safety standards, as well as special designed PSUs for medical and networking environments, with low leakage current and high power density.

I like the look of their new fans and the daisy chaining but 33dba is on the high side. T30 is 27dBa at 2000rpm and A12x25 is 22dBa at 2000rpm.

Their whole FDB schtick looks nice but the Sunon Vapo in the T30-120 is incredibly hard to beat and no one has done it yet.

First company to come out with a truly modern 140mm will get my money. It's just a shame that Seasonic doesn't look to be the one. Still waiting.

I'm willing to accept that 33dba if it's reflected in the price...not everybody is in the market for $30+ fans, regardless of the compromises, as it becomes a daunting proposition to populate all nine fan slots in something like a PC-O11 Dynamic for a price approaching $300 and that surpasses the cost of some of the PC's most important components like the CPU.

I can't predict the future, but seeing as it's:
  • of a premium-looking design with what looks like a metal hub
  • got fancy snap-on daisy chain tech
  • ostensibly a modern 120 like A12x25, T30, Toughfan, SW4 on fan blades and blade-frame clearance
  • Seasonic
I feel pretty confident that it's not trying to compete on price, therefore the 33dBa is not a promising start (unless literally everyone except Seasonic is patently lying about their numbers). Nothing has really shaken up the market thus far in that regard. If you want to save a buck, anything Arctic will do, or get one of those Vento Pros aka new GT. Not a lot of point in buying something in-between that is neither peak value nor top performance.

It's nice to see they've finally announced the entire line up of PSUs. Released would've been far better but eh whaddyado. Maybe in 3 or 4 months everything atx 3.0/p5 will actually be in stores.

Too bad they won't seemingly bring the white versions to Europe because I emailed them and they said they have no plans apparently :/.

When you use fans that actually move a decent amount of air you don't need to populate every single slot. Cheapo fans might be worth it but also an o11D kinda has a terrible flow setup. Now the air mini can exchange its air faster with less fans and still fit eATX boards.

When are people going to learn that manufacturers noise ratings for their fans are absolute bs? Listen to yourself, 22dba FOR A 2000 RPM FAN? That's quieter than a WHISPER. All you're doing is encouraging companies to lie by even more to outsell each other. The a12 and t30 are both roughly 32dba fans at 2000rpm @ 1m (Hardware busters) see how you've automatically given noctua the win purely because they lied by more?

Yeah the tx 1600 in the atx 3 version had it's first reviews come out like a month and half ago. Not sure what the holdup is. From what I've seen it's basically an atx 3.0 corsair ax1600i in terms of performance.

And hey, that's fair that we shouldn't trust first party ratings especially since all of Noctua's numbers are particularly suspect, but what I said was "unless everyone except Seasonic is lying". Hardware Busters' testing the existing Magflow still came out to 37dBa and well behind in noise normalized, so if you exclude Noctua's particularly egregious data then everything still looks about the same.

So while the new Magflow should improve noise perf, judging from even the current Magflow matching the T30 in single unit pricing (~$30), it really doesn't look like SS is providing anything really new or exciting except a slightly cleaner implementation of what Lian Li does, so the point about price and general competitiveness stands.
