Focus Entertainment Declares that Atlas Fallen has gone Gold

Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Deck13 Interactive were happy to declare, yesterday on Twitter, that development on their upcoming action role-player is complete: "We're happy to announce that Atlas Fallen has gone GOLD! 💛 See you on August 10 in the land of Atlas." The game was originally slated to launch back in mid-May, but the studio was granted extra time to implement further optimizations, polish gameplay, and record "a full German voice-over" dub.

Deck13 Interactive is best known for producing "Soulslike" games—notable titles in their past catalog include Lords of the Fallen (2014), The Surge (2017) and The Surge 2 (2019), but Atlas Fallen presents a departure for the team. The emphasis is on fast and fluid action, with inspiration taken from Sony Entertainment's God of War (2018) and Guerrilla's Horizon series. Atlas Fallen is built using the company's in-house "Fledge" engine—it will be interesting to discover how this proprietary technology performs across PC and console platforms.

Update Jul 25th: This article previously misreported that Atlas Fallen was built on Epic's Unreal Engine 5—Deck13 contacted TPU, and requested that we amend our piece with updated information. Atlas Fallen utilizes the team's own Fledge engine.

Blizzard Declares That Diablo IV Has Gone Gold, Releases Gameplay Guide Video Series

Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that Diablo IV is feature complete and has reached a development milestone of being software version 1.0. The official Diablo Twitter account posted a not so cryptic tweet boasting the news: "Diablo IV has gone gold. Can you feel her presence now? See you in Sanctuary. 6.6.23 🔥." The general gaming public will gain access to the fully finished game on June 6, but a select lucky few have been toying with early preview builds over the past months. It is hoped that Blizzard's Diablo team will have all of these hardware melting issues resolved in time for Diablo IV's finalized launch date. In the meantime hardcore fans of the series are encouraged to absorb plenty of preview/marketing material, and go about swatting up on trainer material. Blizzard has uploaded several gameplay guide videos to the official Diablo YouTube channel - the company has enlisted the helpful services of Wudijo, a veteran Diablo streamer, to chaperone viewers through the game's systems.

Russian Baikal-S Processor With 48 Arm-Based Cores Boots Up, Uses RISC-V Coprocessor for Safe Boot and Management

In recent years, government institutions have been funding the development of home-grown hardware that will power the government infrastructure. This trend was born out of a desire to design chips with no back doors implemented so that no foreign body could monitor the government's processes. Today, Russian company Baikal Electronics managed to boot up the Baikal-S processor with 48 cores based on Arm Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). The processor codenamed BE-S1000 manages to operate 48 cores at a 2.0 GHz base frequency, with a maximum boost of 2.5 GHz clock speed. All of that is achieved at the TDP of 120 Watts, making this design very efficient.

When it comes to some server configurations, the Baikal-S processor run in up to four sockets in a server board. It offers a home-grown RISC-V processor for safe boot and management, so the entire SoC is controlled by a custom design. Baikal Electronics provided some benchmark numbers, which you can see in the slides below. They cover SPEC2006 CPU Integer, Coremark, Whetstone, 7Zip, and HPLinkpack performance. Additionally, the company claims that Baikal-S is in line with Intel Xeon Gold 6148 Skylake design and AMD EPYC 7351 CPU based on Zen1 core. Compared to Huawei's Kunpeng 920, the Baikal-S design provides 0.86x performance.
