The box is looking rather nice, but I can't help wondering whether it really needs an external power brick or it could have been powered via USB-PD.

You would still need a power brick or another device if you use USB-PD. Wall voltage still needs to be transformed somehow.

Seems a little pricey, but not too terrible. I got a Topton for $200. N100, 4x 2.5Gb, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD.

Main difference between N95 and N100 is 15w vs 6w. The N100 has 24EUs vs 16EUs, but is clocked at 750MHz vs 1.2GHz.
