I have also come to the conclusion that 2200mhz is the sweet spot for efficiency. That is measured by taking the Timespy gpu score divided by the power usage reported in GPUz. I am going to set my day to day clock speed with a per-game overclock for the games that need it.

This is almost exactly how I have my RDNA2 GPUs set, 6600 XT, 6700 XT, 6800 XT. Though depending on silicon quality that can vary a bit as I think the 6600 XT balances out at closer to 2300. And IMO it's no coincidence the 6400 is fixed at at 2300 MHz to maintain that low 51W power limit. As a random data point my 7700 XT balances this out at 26-2700 MHz in most games, interesting to see the 5nm+chiplet design resulting in a +4-500 MHz efficiency point.

I tailor my clock speeds, core and VRAM, to the game being played as well. Frankly, for me that's part of the fun and you get to know your GPU better.

I don't suppose there is a way to edit the vbios to increase that power limit is there?
What you need is MorePowerTool. https://www.igorslab.de/installer/MorePowerTool_Setup.exe

Unload your VBIOS (GPU-Z will do). Open MPT as an admin. Choose your GPU and open your VBIOS via MPT. Go to "Power" menu. Adjust your max wattage and current to insane numbers like 999 (6750 XT won't consume that much anyway) and then press "Write SPPT."

After that, you reboot and check your GPU behaviour.

I did some research before trying out this tool. It appears to do exactly what I am looking for. I downloaded, ran as administrator, adjusted relevant settings, pressed "Write SPPT" and reboot the pc. Unfortunately it did not work. I tried a few more times without any luck.

I have a 6750xt which is a little different.
Stock settings = ~12717 gpu score
Best OC settings so far = ~13320 gpu score

My stock settings are close to your timespy 12804 gpu score that you shared.

@Nordic Don't change "Power limit (%)" in the OC limits tab, just Power limit (W) in Power tab. The GFX TDC limit of 288 Amps is too high IMO. Keep it ad default, change only Power Limit (W) to 250W for ex, and check sensors in HWInfo if Power limit, TDC or EDC is being a limit for performance when running a game. Then increase Power and TDC slighly (10-15% more max) if needed.

Click Delete SPPT and start over with only 250W Power Limit (W) in Power tab.

How do you guys score on Time Spy?

This is the very edge of what I can squeeze outta my PC Fighter 6700 XT:

12852 Graphics
11937 Total with R5 5600

The sane settings it gets run at every day are here:

12313 Graphics
11540 Total with R5 5600

I can't shake the Benchmark Tesselation blahblah warning. I do the settings changes every time and cleared caches, reinstalls. Worked once, was good for a while, but installed another GPU and it came back like a hungry cat and never left. I swap GPUs too often to care about it any more but I do set the settings properly every time.

Not that you would know with what I posted, but I did try exactly that before posting. I tried a number of different settings before posting before. Because you asked, I did it again just as you requested. It still does not work.

I have seen some reports online where people claim MPT no longer works with some version or another of AMD drivers but someone else claims it is still working. Maybe AMD locked this down? Maybe my card is locked down more than others? I am not sure why but MPT is not working.

What does "GPU PPT Limit" (HWinfo.exe) say? If it says, 240 W, then it works.

What does "GPU PPT Limit" (HWinfo.exe) say? If it says, 240 W, then it works.
It says 210w. So does gpuz. So does adrenaline.

EDIT: FOUND A TIP THAT IT COULD BE AS SIMPLE AS A CLEAN INSTALL OF GRAPHICS DRIVERS. IT WORKS. CURRENTLY SET TO 230W.

EDIT 2: As expected, efficiency rapidly goes down as the power limit increases. Without any number holding it back, my 6750xt will use UPTO ~265w if allowed. I am unable to set max clock higher than 2800mhz and have it stable with an unlimited power limit. At this unlimited power level I achieved a time spy graphics score of 13969.
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/106664274
A graphics score of 13969 is ~10% better than stock, is in the top 26% of graphics scores for this GPU recorded with Timespy, and is ~10% away from the highest scoring 6750xt. I am fairly happy with that. I don't plan to run it that fast very often if ever.

Edit 3: At the most efficient settings I have found, 2000mhz and 900mv, my 6750xt is ~60% more efficient than stock and ~13% slower. At the no power limit settings it is ~7% than stock less efficient and ~10% faster. Most efficient settings for day to day and no limit performance for the few games that need it.

That's pretty dam good. I haven't been able to get that high yet. What was your average clockspeed? What power limit do you have set? What is your cooling?
It's the stock cooler. I set the power to max. I didn't track all the data I just ran it sorry. Now I just need to undervolt and overclock the cpu again. This time track it. And this is on a 5700x that was optimized not overclocked as well.

The graph looks like it is reaching up to ~2900mhz at times but having trouble sustaining it. With my OC settings my 6750xt is rock steady at ~2775mhz so I am surprised to see you getting a higher GPU score.

It seems to be fluctuating to stay within the power limit though the seeming 500 MHz speed delta is quite a bit larger than I usually see, even with changing demands from scene to scene. I think without changing settings the max I see is ~150 MHz assuming GPU load stays at 99-100%. It looks like his card may be working above 2750 more often than below but it may have the GPU Memory overclocked more than yours which will help at any core speed.

This isn't exactly the best comparison but I overlayed my best results over theirs, made mine transparent, inverted my results colors, and increased saturation of my results.

Skater's GPU clock speed is in dark pink while by gpu clockspeed is in light green. PCMark says I averaged 2757 and Skater was running faster on at least half the second gpu test. It appears our vram is nearly the same at 2300 if not exact.

I am curious what your power limit is @amd64skater because I had to run my GPU at 260w or so to get that high of a GPU score. You seem to have much higher silicone quality.

I might get better results after I install PTM7950 though. Skaters cooler is a whole lot bigger than mine.

Will run my GPU in 3DMark in about 35 minutes from now. Not gonna break your records, @Nordic, my GPU OC potential is upsetting because it's got all the headroom in the world but gets stuck at considerably low clocks. That's definitely not the cooler issue, nor is it a PSU issue. VRM also seems to run at moderate temperatures as well.

  • Your graphics score is ~450 higher.
  • Our average clock speed is 5mhz apart so nearly identical.
  • Your peak clock speed was 2918 to my 2779.
  • Our average memory speed was the same.
  • Your average score is 15c lower

If you are doing that score at less than 260w then I find that really impressive. It is significantly better than what my GPU can achieve.

Thank you. OK so I ran this test I can rerun this but. How do I track the power? Also I thought I did data track using Adrenaline but can't seem to find the log.

My GPU refuses to consume >215 W (core only) despite whatever I do to it via MPT so I'm hard stuck at ~2730 MHz effective core clock.

IMO GPU-Z is the gold standard for tracking clocks and power use. I don't have it set to auto-open on any of my PCs because I don't like that behavior but if I did, GPU-Z would be the first and only app.

How much does your 7700 XT get in 3DMark at full OC?
