Xbox's Phil Spencer Addresses Redfall's Substandard Launch State

Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox Game Studios, appeared on the popular (Xbox-themed) Kinda Funny Games podcast earlier this week for a video interview (Xcast Episode 137). The almost 45-minute long conversation touched upon several topics relating to gaming matters at Microsoft, with the hosts managing to corner Spencer about the recent (not so good) launch of Bethesda and Arkane's horror FPS Redfall. Gaming community feedback has not exactly been encouraging in the wake of the game's release two days ago, and Spencer admits that he shares similar sentiments: "I'll just say all up, there's nothing that's more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community. I've been a part of it for a long time. I obviously work on Xbox, head of the business, have a lot of friends, get a lot of feedback. And just to watch the community lose confidence, be disappointed, I'm disappointed. I'm upset with myself. I revisit our process - I think back to the announcement of 60 FPS and then we weren't shipping 60 FPS, that was our punch in the chin, rightfully, a couple of weeks ago. And then seeing the game come out and the critical response was not what we wanted, and it's disappointing."

He continues his thought about reacting to feedback this early on in the process: "What can we learn? What can we get better? One thing I'll fight is what went wrong. There's clearly quality and execution things we can do, but one thing I won't do is push against creative aspirations of our teams. Then a lot of people will say, hey, you've got teams, teams know how to do one kind of game, just force them to go do the one kind of game they have a proven track record for. I'm just not a believer in that. Maybe that means I'll under deliver for some of our fans out there. But when a team like Rare wants to do Sea of Thieves, when a team like Obsidian wants to do Grounded, when Tango wants to go do Hi-Fi (Rush) when everybody probably thought they were doing The Evil Within 3, I want to give the teams the creative platform to go and push their ability, push their aspirations."

Gigabyte Mid-Range GPU Lineup Leaked, Radeon RX 7600 & RTX 4060 Ti Cards Incoming

Hardware tipster harukaze5719 has once again spotted the registration of a new set of Gigabyte products - the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has updated its registry with a slew of NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards - these listings were created this morning, and harukaze5719 picked up on this information almost immediately. Gigabyte's very mid-range new lineup is formed of nine RTX 4060 Ti GPU models and only a pair of Radeon RX 7600 GPU custom design cards - the common pattern is an allocation of 8 GB VRAM.

Gigabyte's two Radeon RX 7600 cards (Gaming & Gaming OC) are likely set for a May 25 launch, according to a combination of official AMD material and rumors from the past week or two - the slightly beefier Radeon RX 7600 XT is rumored to arrive on the same day. Leaked embargo information from earlier on this week suggests that NVIDIA is launching its GeForce RTX 4060 Ti lineup at the end of May, so an almost direct clash between it and AMD's upcoming Radeon 7600 and 7600 XT cards is expected to occur during that time period.

Dead Island 2 Launch Trailer Arrives Alongside 30 Minutes of Leaked Footage

Deep Silver's intended hype train, has been derailed slightly today, for its forthcoming zombie splattering blockbuster ARPG shooter Dead Island 2. A launch trailer was uploaded to the game's official YouTube channel this afternoon, in hope of generating more pre-release internet interest. The uptick in marketing efforts has gained some gaming community attention, but leaked gameplay footage was uploaded to YouTube only hours before the debuting of the official launch video. A streamer identifying as Lucas Cosmico is reported to have played a pre-release version of Dead Island 2 last night, and proceeded to stream the opening moments of the single player campaign - 30 minutes of gameplay footage is still accessible on their YouTube channel at the time of writing, but potential legal action is likely to result in a takedown order.

The Dead Island 2 development cycle has not been a pleasant experience for those involved, according to multiple news pieces reported across the project's lifespan of more than a decade. Several studios have worked on the game, but publisher Deep Silver sought to remove the involvement of Yager and Sumo Digital at different stages of development. Dambuster Studios was declared, by THQ Nordic back in 2019, as the final resting place for Dead Island 2's production push. The Nottingham, UK-based studio happens to be a subsidiary of Deep Silver - the studio was offloaded to D.S. by Crytek in 2014, following substantial financial difficulties.

Sega's Tower Defense Shooter Endless Dungeon Suffers Delay, Launch Date Pushed Into Autumn

Hello everyone, Antoine here, those who recognize me know that I used to work on Humankind during the last few years. I'm now working as a Producer on Endless Dungeon, which means I'm helping to coordinate the Endless Dungeon team to make sure we can deliver a high-quality experience for you. We have some news to share regarding the release date of ENDLESS Dungeon.

The Nintendo Switch version will have a release date announced later. After all the feedback we've received we believe that it's important to spend extra time working on the game. We hope that you understand that decisions like this are never easy to make.

Redfall Graphics Performance Restricted to 30 FPS Quality Mode on Xbox Series X|S at Launch

Bethesda tweeted out an information update directed at Xbox Series console owners - and it has caused a stir within the fanbase - Redfall will be locked to "Quality Mode" upon launch in early May. PC gaming enthusiasts will have plenty to laugh about with these newly announced graphical performance restrictions, set for the green team's pair of current generation consoles. The frame rate will be capped at a maximum of 30 frames per second on both Xbox Series X and S, under the "Quality" performance mode. The version tuned for Series X will be able to output at the 4K UHD resolution standard (3840 x 2160), and the pixel count will be reduced for Microsoft's weaker console offering, at 1440p QHD (2560 x 1440).

Bethesda states that a 60 frames per second "Performance Mode" for Xbox Series X|S will be added at a later (unspecified) date, presumably via an online patch issued through Xbox Live. No further details were provided regarding the decision to cap frame rates, all the more strange given that Redfall is due to launch very soon. Arkane Studios (the Austin, TX branch) declared last month that it was also working on a removal of the always online requirement for the game's single player element - again, no time period for release has been established for this reversal. Redfall has attracted mounds of controversy over the past two months - including Sony's attention through litigation.

AMD Allegedly Has 200,000 Radeon RX 7900 Series GPUs for Launch Day

AMD is preparing the launch of the Radeon RX 7900 series of graphics cards for December 13th. And, of course, with recent launches being coated in uncertainty regarding availability, we are getting more rumors about what the availability could look like. According to Kyle Bennett, founder of HardOCP, we have information that AMD is allegedly preparing 200,000 Radeon RX 7900 SKUs for launch day. If the information is truthful, among the 200,000 launch-day SKUs, there should be 30,000 Made-by-AMD (MBA) cards, while the rest are AIB partner cards. This number indicates that AMD's market research has shown that there will be a great demand for these new GPUs and that the scarcity problem should be long gone.

A few days ago, we reported that the availability of the new AMD Radeon generation is reportedly scarce, with Germany receiving only 3,000 MBA designs and the rest of the EMEA region getting only 7,000 MBA SKUs as well. With today's rumor going around, we would like to know if this is correct and if more SKUs will circulate. America's region could receive most of the MBA designs, and AIB partners will take care of other regions. Of course, we must wait for tomorrow's launch and see how AMD plans to execute its strategy.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 RDNA3 GPU Launch Could Face Scarcity, China Loses Reference Card Privilege

AMD's next-generation Radeon RX 7900 high-end graphics cards are set to arrive next week and bring the new RDNA3 GPU architecture to the masses. However, it seems like the customers will have to fight for their purchase as the availability could be scarce at launch, leading to potentially increased prices with low stocks. According to Igor's Lab report, Germany will receive only 3,000 reference MBA (Made By AMD) units of Radeon RX 7900 series cards. In contrast, the rest of the EMEA region will receive only 7,000 MBA units. These numbers are lower than expected, so AIB partners may improve the supply once their designs hit shelves.

On the other hand, mainland China will not receive any MBA units of the new cards as a sign of increasing tension with Taiwan. Of course, AMD's board partners will supply their designs to China, and they are allowed to; however, it seems that only AMD is making a statement here. In addition to supply issues, the launch is rumored to be covered in BIOS issues such as memory leaks and the COVID-19 outbreak affecting production in closed factories. Of course, all of this information should be taken with a grain of salt, and we must wait for the official launch before making any further assumptions.

Nex Computer Launches NexPad: A Portable Monitor That Can Be Stacked on Top of a Laptop Screen

Nex Computer LLC announced today the launch of NexPad: a portable monitor with built-in magnets that can attach to laptops for vertical dual-screen setup. Research shows that using dual monitors boosts productivity. However, using side-by-side monitors isn't always optimal because of the large gap between the monitors, diminishing the view. The side-by-side setup also spans outside of people's peripheral vision which can lead to neck strain.

NexPad's solution is a second display at an elevated height that can reduce neck strain and help improve posture, boosting productivity and convenience. "We are launching NexPad to enable the modern professional to be more productive in the ever more mobile workplace," said Emre Kosmaz, CEO and founder of Nex Computer. "Professionals in any industry can now enjoy the additional screen space to free themselves from the traditional desk setups by embracing flexibility and efficiency offered by NexPad."

Intel Core i9-13900KF CPU Arrives Before the Official Launch

Intel's upcoming 13th generation of Core processors, codenamed "Raptor Lake," is supposed to arrive in the coming days. Apparently, one user pre-ordered the CPU and got it delivered to their home. Pictured below is the box of Intel Core i9-13900KF CPU. This SKU comes without integrated graphics and boasts eight P-cores with 16 E-cores on board. This is supposed to boost performance, along with the higher frequencies Raptor Lake is advertised to bring. The user even showed screenshots of proof that the software recognizes this upcoming model, so the information seems legit. In the screenshots below, we see that the P-cores of this SKU is reaching 5.5 GHz clock speeds. We are yet to see how much this silicon is capable of; however, the frequency alone looks promising.

AMD CEO Lisa Su Says Ryzen 7000 Launch Availability to be Strong

AMD CEO Lisa Su, who has supervised the company's rise from the ashes, looked to assuage fears of reduced stock for the launch of AMD's next-gen Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. Hardware enthusiasts being understandably burned from the last generation of GPU and CPU's lack of availability (and ensuing scalping practices), the CEO in today's announcement of the Ryzen 7000 series carried a promise: "It is true that if you look at the past 18 months there have been a number of things, whether its capacity limitations or logistics," she said. "From an AMD standpoint, we have dramatically increased our overall capacity, in terms of wafers, as well as substrates and on the back end. So with our launch of Zen 4 we don't expect any supply constraints."

AMD's Zen 4 family is being launched with the new AM5 socket, which AMD says will live through 2025+ for subsequent CPU releases. The company has managed to increase IPC by 13% while decreasing the overall CCD size by 18% compared to that of Zen 3 (reducing the area/cost impact of adding integrated graphics throughout the lineup). Frequencies have gone up to a maximum 5.7 GHz thanks to smart circuitry redesign and TSMC's 5 nm node. AMD says its Ryzen 7000 can thus be expected to provide up to 29% higher single-core and 45% higher multi-core performance. Of course, with macroeconomics being what they are, and recent reports on lack of low-price chips throughout the market, it's not only the availability of Ryzen 7000 CPUs that matters: AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory chip stocks have to be taken into account as well. But all in all, AMD seems to be prepared for a successful and quantity-adequate launch.
