Dead Island 2 Launch Trailer Arrives Alongside 30 Minutes of Leaked Footage

Deep Silver's intended hype train, has been derailed slightly today, for its forthcoming zombie splattering blockbuster ARPG shooter Dead Island 2. A launch trailer was uploaded to the game's official YouTube channel this afternoon, in hope of generating more pre-release internet interest. The uptick in marketing efforts has gained some gaming community attention, but leaked gameplay footage was uploaded to YouTube only hours before the debuting of the official launch video. A streamer identifying as Lucas Cosmico is reported to have played a pre-release version of Dead Island 2 last night, and proceeded to stream the opening moments of the single player campaign - 30 minutes of gameplay footage is still accessible on their YouTube channel at the time of writing, but potential legal action is likely to result in a takedown order.

The Dead Island 2 development cycle has not been a pleasant experience for those involved, according to multiple news pieces reported across the project's lifespan of more than a decade. Several studios have worked on the game, but publisher Deep Silver sought to remove the involvement of Yager and Sumo Digital at different stages of development. Dambuster Studios was declared, by THQ Nordic back in 2019, as the final resting place for Dead Island 2's production push. The Nottingham, UK-based studio happens to be a subsidiary of Deep Silver - the studio was offloaded to D.S. by Crytek in 2014, following substantial financial difficulties.
The official announcement for today's trailer states: "With just a few days left to wait until the legendary zombie saga returns, feast your eyes on the official Dead Island 2 Launch Trailer and get ready to experience the ultimate pulp zombie adventure."

The thirty minute-long leak can be viewed here (likely on a temporary basis):

The much-loved zombie saga is back! Dead Island 2 is a unique formula of horror, dark humor and over the top zombie-slaying, spanning an epic pulp adventure.

again, just disappointing, looks like a game from 10 years ago, in every way.

Eh, I can't agree.

The issue I have is the apparent use of supernatural powers and senses etc.

DI1 was good for strictly mechanical and physical weapons, this seems more like an "everything goes if it's exciting we'll include it" trope, bit of a shame.

Joker type zombie themes are overdone, I want a dangerous world where the enemies scare me and I have to play smart and well to survive and thrive.

Combined with mechanics and difficulty that likely cater to the lowest common denominator of players, this seems like meh.

I would LOVE a serious zombie survival type of game, especially with the ermm ability...to use your brain.
Like its what I liked so much about the first episodes of the Walking Dead, just how they dealt with the Zombies, what stopped them, what didnt.
Simple rope could already help, windchimes with a ditch that zombies fall into that you can go to every now and then and clear out with some fire.

I would love ot be able to actual clear areas decently enough of zombie presence.

Heck ladders, have not seen a zombie climb a ladder yet....

But so far non of that, because that would actually be quite revolutionary and require some high level physics etc, aka too much effort.

DLSS is a personal opinion, I couldn't care less if a game uses it or not. I don't enable it in any games.

I do agree about the fact the game is being locked behind PC exclusivity on EGS. I'm not okay with that. If it ever makes it out to GoG, then I'll look into getting the game. Until then, no thanks.

I can live with dated grafich to a surten degree, but I will expect hardware demand will be there after. I just need my fix for some zombie killing.

More important to me is that the game runs properly. Meaning no bugs, crashes and lag every second. So to me it's important that it is properly optimized. If not, I'm out to.
