Nightingale Devs Remove FSR 3 Integration From Launch Build

It's finally (almost) here! With Nightingale's Early Access launch just a few days away on February 20th, we (Inflexion Games) wanted to share with you some gameplay and feature updates before we open the portals to the Faewilds. If you have any questions or feedback on the topics below then jump into our official Discord and join the discussion. FSR 3 Removal
After reviewing crash data from the Server Stress Test, a significant number of them seemed to point to FSR 3 integrations, whether or not users had the setting turned on. To ensure better stability, we temporarily have removed FSR 3 from the launch build and are working with various external and internal teams to see if we can implement it, or an older FSR version, in future updates. We've added an update to our Performance Expectation blog to reflect this change. For those who wish to use XeSS or DLSS, these will still be available at launch.

HUD Updates
In case you missed our Developer Update video, we announced that we made some changes to our UI based on feedback and observations from the Server Stress Test. Some key changes:
  • Hotbar now goes from 1-0 (can be rebound in settings), the default 1-5 keys are still mainhand (character's right hand) and offhand (character's left hand) is still by default linked to the 6-0 keys
  • Changed status bar presentation, added icons per status
  • HUD will fade out when no actions or survival pressures are triggered after a short period of time
Additional UI Updates:
  • Equipped items (gear, hotbar) no longer show in your inventory
  • You can drag and drop items from your inventory to your hotbar, and vice-versa
  • Stamina bar is invisible when not active
  • Crafting recipes have been changed to text rather than cards
  • When in a menu, other menu screen options are visible in the top bar
  • Damage numbers can be turned off in Settings
  • And a couple of UI-adjacent updates:
  • To sheath items in your hand press 'H'
  • You can now activate 'Streamer Mode' in the Settings menu. This will prevent your character name being displayed as you play the game (and therefore avoid creators being bombarded by party invites if their audience can see their name)
We'll continue to refine and update the UI as we move into Early Access, so please let us know how you find the updated functionality.

Controller Support
As we quickly adapted both the front-end UI presentation and consolidate various backend functionality in just under a week, it had an impact on controller functionality. The game can be played with a controller for the Early Access launch, but may require the very occasional keyboard or mouse input. We will work to integrate full controller support as soon as possible in a near future update.

While it's not in its final form, please feel free to provide feedback on it throughout Early Access. We've updated our Accessibility page and store page to reflect these changes.

Steam Deck
We've been getting a lot of questions in regards to whether Steam Deck will be supported at launch. Technically, Nightingale can launch and be played on Steam Deck with the caveats to controller support listed above, but we're not considering it officially supported at launch. This means we will not be providing customer support for Steam Deck issues at launch as it's considered an unofficial platform at this time. We are working on full Steam Deck support and will provide an update once that status is confirmed.

If you have a Steam Deck, you're welcome to play Nightingale on it and provide feedback or bug reports (more details on how to do that coming soon), but please disclose that you're playing on Steam Deck so it's easier for our team to recreate it internally. Other versions of Linux are also not officially supported at this time, but we're happy for you to report your bugs with details on what version you're experiencing issues on.

Mark your calendars because we're opening the Portal network ahead of schedule! Nightingale will now launch into Early Access on February 20, 2024. This will not only allow you all to start your adventures as a Realmwalker two days earlier than originally planned but also give our team a head start in addressing any issues at launch before the busy weekend period.

Both vendors have their fair share of issues but when it comes to technology implemented in games Nvidia has a long history of performance and stability issues. Both Hairworks and PhysX were a complete cluster even on Nvidia hardware. Enabling PhysX in borderlands 2 causes massive frames pikes and crashing. Exact same goes for the witcher 3. Nvidia over-tesselation killed performance in Crysis 2 and a PhysX patch tanked performance in Sacred 2.

FSR / DLSS / XeSS in general aren't difficult to implement. That one dev in particular is having an issue speaks to either a specific problem with to their unique situation (like engine issues) or just their competence in general.

But I digress, the anti-AMD one line quippers don't comment to have a genuine conversation but to validate their existing opinions.

Early access, issue with tech, yeah

I will clearly pass on that. It's pretty amazing to see that most game that are not AAA get released as early access and man, they aren't always worth it.

So like any game release wait for atleast 6 months for game to be patched and be finally available in what should have been launch version or better yet wait 12 months for a fixed and discounted game.

Forgive this funny post. Just remembered Starfield. Of course with Starfield we seen the above analogous image online with publications and individuals(?) accusing AMD. In every case where FSR is not implemented or an AMD exclusive feature is getting removed, everything is fine.

In fact is even better than fine. It's an opportunity for FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

"FSR 3 integration causes crashes", integration means it's their implementation, not the actual software, they screwed up. This is especially obvious since they claim the crash happens whether or not the thing is even used.

Wish people could understand what these words mean but I am asking too much, the average IQ on this forum has dropped astonishing low as of late.

AMD hate is a thing for over 15 years and it's evident even in tech press. When a big part of tech publications are not much different in anti-AMD articles than some of the posters in TPU, I think even people with higher than average IQ in here, will just rush to post something anti-AMD, following the current trend, ignoring some important details in the news.

Anyway. It will be fun to see someone coming out with an FSR 3 mod for AMD and RTX 30 and 20 series that doesn't crash the same day this game goes on sale.

Quite clever marketing, temporarily remove a talked about feature which gets the game free news coverage, never heard of the game until this article.

On the game itself, of course I all stuff I seen before, crafting etc., its a rehash of other games, but why oh why dev's pick first person view for RPG's no immersion from it, just feel like a floating orb with hands attached.

Should we not, as tech enthusiasts, rather discuss how interesting this problem is? We know mods have simply replaced DLSS for FSR (and vice versa) in the past, so how can it be that one of them crashes this game specifically?
Will they ever share what the issue was or will we just get patch notes that its fixed now?
Does AMD's driver level AFMF work just fine without crashing?

aint that the sad truth, but the world of gamers at large still just buys everything day 1, last year with gawd knows so much terrible stuff at launch (and some still to this day) Dead Space, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Redfall, Starfield, Forspoken, Mortal Kombat with its insane DLC pricing, etc etc, when will the consumer demand better from companies?

Heck I tell you what I personally find interesting, Im now replaying Alan Wake 1 because a friend streamed me Control and I noticed how little I remembered from that game.
And playing it now Im having an absolute blast, im amazed by how great that game is, at the time I did not nearly appreciate it so much but I think because at the time....gaming still seemed to move forward at a good pace, so at the time it was ya know decent, but not super special or revolutionary....but in the context of todays awful stuff its just a fantastic experience (im sure Alan Wake 2 is great as well but have not touched that yet)

nah lets not indulge into conspiracy theories more then the world is sadly already doing these days.
Im sure something is going on, I just want to know what exactly the problem is, but I fear will wont get that information.

Probably only an update about "we fixed that" or, "FSR 3 coming in a latter patch".
ZoneDymo(im sure Alan Wake 2 is great as well but have not touched that yet)
Alan Wake 2 is mostly a tech demo, like CP2077. I mean considering Path Tracing implementation in AW2 and the improvements Path Tracing would receive in the near future and the game itself, it could be a good idea someone to play it in 2-3 years from now. It will also be cheaper by then. Except if the game itself and not it's graphics are more important to someone, meaning can play the game even with mid/low graphics settings and enjoy it the same.

I already have mods for FSR3 running in Robocop, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, no crashing so I guess they need to hire better devs for implementation if one guy can do it in his free time and they need to remove it to fix it.

Yeah. It's the side effect of UE5, the engine offers a whole range of shortcuts; It ends up allowing a reduction in the number of people with deep experience and talent. There is scope for using newbies, paying less.

getting rid of the stuttering in unreal engine is a lot of work and time = costs a lot of money but since gamers are stupid and buy anyways why should the publisher care.

but epic is working on it to make it for devs much easier to get rid of it lets just hope this will not take to long since 90% of games will be on the unreal engine 5 in the future sadly.

the coalition who made gears 5 are master of the engine.
