Microsoft Could be Planning Bid for Logitech

Rumours are flying around the internet that Microsoft could be planning a takeover bid for computer peripherals firm Logitech. Apparently Microsoft will offer 48 francs per share, compared to the current value of 39.46 francs, giving Logitech a value of around 10 billion francs (or roughly $9 billion US). Amid this speculation, share prices have risen over 12% from 34.80 francs on Wednesday to their current value, although many analysts are still sceptical of any takeover, with Michael Foeth from Vontobel bank saying:
Today's share price rise is probably more related to a rebound in the market than any rumours.

Logitech at CES 2008

Logitech is also trying to make some attention at CES. For starters there's a brand new Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution keyboard and mouse combo that features the award-winning Logitech MX Revolution cordless laser mouse, a dynamic keyboard display and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Logitech is also displaying the stylish Z Cinéma Advanced Surround Sound System which connects through a USB port. Logitech to Acquire WiLife

Logitech International today announced that it is broadening its presence in the digital home with the acquisition of WiLife Inc., which offers an affordable, easy-to-set-up, easy-to-use PC-based video solution for self-monitoring a home or smaller business. Logitech has entered into an agreement to acquire the privately held company, based in Draper, Utah, for approximately $24 million plus a possible performance-based payment, tied to reaching certain future revenue targets. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close by mid-November.

Logitech Announces Classic Keyboard 200 Support for Nintendo’s Wii Console

Logitech Creates webcams that record at 720p HD resolutions

Logitech has officially hopped on board the High Definition bandwagon with their latest line of notebook-mounted webcams. The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and Logitech QuickCam Pro for notebooks can record video at an impressive 720p resolution at 30 frames per second. Both webcams use Carl Zeiss lenses, which help the cameras take extra sharp video/pictures. Standalone, the webcams can take 2MP pictures. Both webcams will be available in the UK soon for £49/$100.

Logitech SetPoint 4.0 released

Anyone using the SetPoint software provided for Logitech mice and keyboards can now update their software to version 4.0. It supports the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of both Windows XP and Windows Vista, with the download being approximately 60MB for each - Windows 2000 and earlier are not supported by the new software. Unfortunately (for most), it now comes bundled with the Yahoo! Toolbar, so make sure to unselect that option if you don't use such tools. There don't seem to be any major changes, presumably just bug fixes and a couple of new features. You can download the new software here.

Logitech Prepares "Wave" Keyboard

After the recent FCC approval for a new wireless keyboard/mouse combination called "Cordless Desktop Wave", Logitech is now preparing Windows Vista keyboard. The new device will be Logitech's first keyboard tailored for use with Microsoft's new Windows Vista operating system. Compared to the currently available "Cordless Desktop Comfort laser" keyboard, there are now a few dedicated buttons that directly correspond to Vista features. There are four additional buttons that allow access to Vista Gadgets, the Photo Gallery, the Windows Media Player and the Media Center. The Wave also offers keys for Vista's Flip3D feature and a function to put the PC into sleep mode. The enclosed mouse also supports Flip3D by clicking and the scroll wheel. Pricing has not been announced but it should remain around $100.

New Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse

Logitech's popular gaming mouse, the G5, got a facelift and will be available immediately. The weight customizable distribution unit is still the same allowing you to tweak the handling properly. New are the 9! mappable buttons and a more accurate scroll wheel.
The price will be the same as before (around 75 Euros), so is the laser unit (2000dpi).

Logitech Intros X-240 Speakers


Logitech announced today the Logitech X-240 speaker system for the PC, to be on display at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show next week. The X-240 PC speaker system features a redesigned control center that includes audio controls for a PC or Mac and serves as a cradle for an iPod or other MP3 player, PDA or mobile phone. The X-240 speakers include specialized trays for the iPod and Microsoft Zune portable players and pumps out 25 watts RMS(2x5W satellites, 15W sub-woofer). The Logitech X-240 speaker system is expected to be available in the U.S. beginning in April and in Europe beginning in May. With a suggested retail price in the U.S. of $49.99, the Logitech X-240 speakers provide superior audio performance for their price.
