Logitech Tells Harmony Link Owners to Bid Their Devices Goodbye (Updated)

The Harmony Link, a device that made its introduction back in 2011, basically turns your iPad, iPhone, or Android smartphone into a remote control. With the help of the corresponding Logitech app, users can control up to eight different home theater devices scattered around the house. Harmony Link owners probably woke up today to some very disgusting news. In a short email sent by Logitech to their customers, the company announced its plan to drop support for the device completely in March 16, 2018. This is outright wrong considering customers bought the Harmony Link as a device and not a subscription service.

There's no other way around it though. Many Harmony Link devices are likely to end up in the garbage bin come March of next year. Logitech is currently offering a 35% discount on the new Harmony Hub to soften the blow. However, we doubt their customers will return given the mistreatment. Besides, there's no guarantee that this won't happen again when the company decides to replace the Harmony Hub with the next best thing.

Logitech Develops Bridge SDK to Bring Keyboards Into Virtual Reality

The keyboard is one of the most basic and most used input devices that exist. It's also very useful in the virtual reality realm, since many applications require user input. For this same reason, Logitech has been working alongside HTC to develop a virtual keyboard for VR users. Their efforts have given fruits, and Logitech has officially announced their Bridge SDK. Users are required to purchase a Bridge developers kit which costs $150. The kit comes with a Logitech G gaming keyboard, a small accessory to attach the Vive Tracker to the keyboard, and the necessary software. As you may notice, the Vive Tracker is purchased separately, so that will set you back another $99.

Once everything is hooked up, the Bridge software will position a virtual keyboard over the physical one. Users can then see their hands and type on the keyboard without having to take off their VR headset. The only catch is that you must use the Logitech keyboard as models from other manufacturers aren't supported. However, Logitech does allow users to customize the virtual keyboard to some extent. They can change the keyboard's appearance, the font's size and colors, or highlight and hide the different keys.

Logitech Improves G203 Prodigy Mouse Sensor Precision with Firmware Update

Logitech has released an updated firmware that brings much more than the usual updates we see: it actually improves rated specs of their already released G203 Prodigy mouse. Case in point: Logitech's Chris Pate said that "We learned a lot of lessons in designing the new HERO sensor found in our latest Logitech G603 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse that could also be applied to the Logitech G203 Prodigy Gaming Mouse." Whether this was achieved through simple overclocking of some of the mice's internals, or simply some unused hardware capabilities that weren't reachable for some reason, it's unclear; what's clear is that the improvements are massive.

Sensor precision for Logitech's 6203 Prodigy has been increased by 33%, from a maximum 6000 DPI (adjustable from 200 DPI) to a maximum 8000 DPI. Maximum mouse speed and acceleration of have also been increased, from 200 IPS to 300 IPS and from 25G to 35G, respectively. Other Logitech G203 features include 1000 Hz USB report rate, programmable buttons with in-mouse storage of settings, and RGB lighting on the "G" logo. The G203's pricing was already reasonable with its base specs and the $39.99 in the U.S. €44.99 in the E.U., but with this update, the value is further increased. The firmware update in question can be downloaded via the latest Logitech Gaming software.

Logitech Introduces the MX ERGO - Wireless Trackball Tech on Your Fingertips

Logitech, a well-known company for its peripheral leadership, has brought us a blast from the blast in introducing its MX ERGO trackball-based mice. For some, this likely means absolutely nothing at all; but for others, it's likely a time to reminisce. There's a rechargeable 500 mAH Li-Po battery with up to 4 months duration.

There are some quality of life improvements like sensitivity shortcuts embedded for on-the-fly adjustment (320-440 dpi), a scroll will with tilt support, and a multi-computer workflow ability. This is done through the MX ERGO's Easy-Switch feature, which allows users to connect and work on two devices in parallel for dual connectivity. This feature can be used with either the Logitech 2.4GHz unifying dongle or Bluetooth. The MX ERGO is available immediately for $99.

Logitech Acquires ASTRO Gaming for $85 million

In a move that is sure to increase Logitech's portfolio and cadre of available designs for its products, the Switzerland-based company has snagged up ASTRO Gaming for a cool $85 million. That both ASTRO and Logitech both have some of their more recognizable strengths in the same market - the headset one - didn't seem to faze Logitech's board. This probably means the company is looking to further lock-in the headset market through overwhelming quality and attractiveness of its headsets.

Mad Catz at Risk of Being Delisted from the NYSE

Gaming peripherals maker Mad Catz is an NYSE-listed company as Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (NYSE: MCZ), a status it brandishes in most of its press-releases. All is not well for the company, as it runs the risk of being delisted on account of low selling share price. The stock exchange recently served the company with a notice that unless it improves its share price over the next six months, it faces delisting.

The MCZ stock is currently selling at a little over 0.15 a share. The company has been bleeding money, with underwhelming sales, a $11 million loss on its decision to co-publish "Rock Band 4" with Harmonix, and laying off 37 percent of its workforce. The company also recently sold off its subsidiary Saitek, which specializes with flight and motorsport simulator peripherals, to market leader Logitech. Mad Catz, on its part, is looking to raise stock price by performing a "reverse stock split," in an attempt to consolidate (lower) the number of shares, and raise share price, to stay listed.

Logitech's New Addition to Their Gaming Mice Line-up - The G203 Prodigy

In another addition to their gaming mice product range, Logitech has gone and left behind the complex, sometimes overly contoured designs of recent gaming mice in developing their new G203 Prodigy. The G203 does present a design that is closer to a neutral one, with no particular ergonomics considerations for either a left-handed or right-handed person (save for the pair of left-side thumb buttons). This thus increases the overall number of users whose natural hand posture may allow them to use this gaming mouse with more comfort, though it does mean the mouse makes some sacrifices in overall ergonomics.

Logitech Announces G533 Wireless Gaming Headset

Logitech today introduced the Logitech G533 Wireless Gaming Headset. With professional grade wireless technology, U.S. patent- pending Pro-G audio drivers and DTS Headphone:X 7.1 surround sound, the headset delivers advanced audio performance and wireless convenience. The Logitech G533 also features a long battery life and purist design, giving you maximum comfort during marathon gaming sessions.

"Our audio team set out to create a headset that delivers the most immersive and accurate PC gameplay experience," said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of the Logitech gaming business. "With DTS Headphone:X and our Pro-G Driver, the result is amazing. Now, you can amplify game sounds to achieve the most accurate positioning and experience in-game effects."

Logitech Acquires Saitek, to Make a Big VR Move

Peripherals major Logitech announced that it has acquired gaming peripherals maker Saitek from MadCatz. Logitech paid MadCatz USD $13 million in cash for the acquisition. Ujesh Desai, head of Logitech's gaming peripherals brand Logitech G, said that the acquisition should augment the kind of gaming peripherals Saitek specializes in - joysticks for flight-simulators, and customized racing wheels for motorsport sims.

Desai also hinted that Logitech G could make a big move in the VR gaming space, not necessarily with HMDs, but with other related input devices. Over the past few years, Saitek's product line has been increasingly game title-specific, by tapping into specific markets (eg: the Flight Simulator community). Logitech G, on the other hand, makes gaming input devices for the masses. Logitech could tap into Saitek to create input devices for VR games that are highly game-specific.

It's gaming gear made exclusively for everyone." The Logitech G Prodigy series includes the Logitech G403 Prodigy Gaming Mouse, Logitech G403 Prodigy Wireless Gaming Mouse, Logitech G213 Prodigy RGB Gaming Keyboard, and the Logitech G231 Prodigy Headset.

Logitech Introduces Its First Ever Silent Mice

Today Logitech announced the Logitech M330 Silent Plus and the Logitech M220 Silent Wireless Mice, the first quiet mice ever developed by Logitech. The M330 Silent Plus and M220 Silent mice deliver the same precision, durability and "click" feel without the noise. "We live in a social world, whether you work in a shared space or at home, but sometimes silence really is golden," said Anatoliy Polyanker, global portfolio and brand director at Logitech. "That's why we created the M330 Silent Plus and the M220 Silent mice. Our engineers studied the sources of noise made by a computer mouse and created ways to reduce the decibel level without sacrificing quality."

With the M330 Silent Plus and the M220 Silent you can work quietly without compromise. These mice provide the traditional click feel, but with over 90 percent noise reduction. And with Logitech Advanced Optical Tracking, they are ultra-precise and work on almost every surface. Both the M330 Silent Plus and M220 Silent provide a wireless connection up to 33 feet away thanks to a plug-and-forget nano receiver, and the mice work with Windows, Mac , Chrome OS or Linux -based computers with no hassle. Plus, they have received the Quiet Mark seal of approval from the Noise Abatement Society.
