Bracken P. Darrell Becomes Chief Executive Officer of Logitech

Logitech International (SIX: LOGN) (Nasdaq: LOGI) today filed a Current Report on Form 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission confirming that Bracken P. Darrell has become the chief executive officer of the company, effective January 1, 2013, as part of an executive leadership transition planned when he joined Logitech as president in April 2012. Logitech Announces Second Quarter Results for FY 2013

Logitech International (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today announced financial results for the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2013.

Sales for Q2 FY 2013 were $548 million, down 7 percent from $589 million in Q2 FY 2012. Excluding the unfavorable impact of exchange rates, sales were down 4 percent compared to the same quarter in the prior year. Operating income was $24 million, up 3 percent from operating income of $23 million in the same quarter a year ago. Net income for Q2 FY 2013 was $55 million ($0.35 per share) compared to net income of $17 million ($0.10 per share) in Q2 FY 2012. Net income for Q2 FY 2013 includes a net tax benefit of $32 million from the closure of an income tax audit. Gross margin for the quarter was 35.8 percent, compared to 33.7 percent in the same quarter one year ago.

Today Logitech announced the expansion of its keyboard lineup with the Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810. Compatible with Windows, iOS and Android devices - and with a layout designed for Windows 8 - this rechargeable keyboard uses Bluetooth connectivity to pair with up to three devices simultaneously. Logitech Announces Z553 Desktop Speakers

Logitech announced the Z553, a 2.1-channel speaker system for desktops and TVs. Its design takes inspiration from cylinders, and feature a black+red color scheme. Its satellites measure 90 x 137 x 160 mm (HxDxW), and each use a pair of 52 mm drivers with output (per satellite) of 10W. Its cylindrical 168 x 175 x 381 mm sub-woofer packs a 178 mm driver with 20W output. The speakers support a frequency-response range of 55 - 17,000 Hz. A wired control pod gives you power, volume, and headset jacks. All cables are wired red to gel with the color scheme. Market availability is slated for October 26. It is expected to be priced around $150.

Logitech Announces First Quarter Results for FY 2013

Logitech International today announced financial results for the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2013.

Sales for Q1 FY 2013 were $469 million, down 2 percent from $480 million in Q1 FY 2012. Excluding the unfavorable impact of exchange rates, sales were flat compared to the prior year. The Company posted an operating loss of $59 million compared to an operating loss of $45 million in the same quarter a year ago. Included in Logitech's Q1 FY 2013 operating loss is a previously announced restructuring charge of $31 million included in operating expenses as well as $3 million in restructuring-related costs included in cost of goods sold. The net loss for Q1 FY 2013 was $52 million ($0.32 per share) compared to a net loss of $30 million ($0.17 per share) in Q1 FY 2012.

More People Use Desktop Speakers than Headsets for Gaming: TechPowerUp Poll Trend

Last week, we came up with our latest front-page poll question, asking our readers which is their preferred audio output when gaming (playing their favorite PC games). Choices included desktop speakers, headsets, and external home audio solutions (such as HT amps, HiFi systems, etc.) Over the course of the week that followed, we accumulated over 1,800 votes to build our sample, which consists of our readers (both registered members of our Forums, and unregistered readers). The interim results come as a bit of a surprise to us.

According to numbers recorded at the time of writing this article, from 1,820 respondents, 808 (44.18%) prefer desktop speakers, a close 719 (39.31%) prefer headsets, with external home audio system being a distant yet significant third option, with 302 (16.51%) of the respondents preferring it.

Logitech Introduces TAA-Compliant Keyboard and Mice For U.S. Federal Agencies

Logitech Announces Fourth Quarter and Full-Year Financial Results for FY 2012

Logitech International (SIX: LOGN) (Nasdaq: LOGI) today announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full year of Fiscal Year 2012.

Sales for Q4 FY 2012 were $532 million, down 3 percent from $548 million in Q4 FY 2011. Excluding the unfavorable impact of exchange rates, sales decreased by 2 percent compared to the prior year. Operating income was $24 million compared to $4 million in the same quarter a year ago. Net income for Q4 FY 2012 was $28 million ($0.17 per share) compared to net income of $3 million ($0.02 per share) in Q4 of FY 2011. Gross margin for the quarter was 36.4 percent compared to 32.8 percent in the same quarter one year ago.
