AMDs socket 939 to reach EOL by the end of 2006

AMD will be killing off the 939 pin socket by the end of 2006. Last chip orders can be placed by Q4 2006 and the last CPUs should leave AMD by Q2 2007. The interesting part is, that the 754 pin socket will outlast the 939 socket by about a whole year. The EOL for socket 754 is Q4 2007.

nah it's right, the sempronline will continue to be 754 until the quad cores are released, then we'll see an entirely different socket running on ddr3 memory.

When is it the best time to get a deal on 939? Right before they discontinue or after? Or something else?

The 939 3000+ is back in stock at most places for around $130, right now would be a good time to buy.
