Dell and AMD: Official

Dell has announced that at long last, AMD's Opterons chips will be finding their places in the Texas-based company's server line. The press release came out earlier today, and after a bit of trouble with their website this afternoon, the press release is back up for all to see. The PR details that the chips will be used in multi processor units by the end of this year, but does not give any more information as to the future of AMD's products in Dell's computers.
In the enterprise, we will launch new ninth generation servers featuring Intel's Woodcrest microprocessors. Dell will also introduce new AMD Opteron processors in our multi-processor servers by the end of the year offering a great new technology to our customers at the high-end of our server line.
PR here.

ROFL. I had to rewrite it too, because while I was writing the first one, their servers came back up, and I had been writing it like it may or may not be true. Now it obviously is, but it looked kinda suspicious what with the PR being offline and all. :D

Thermopylae_480This should still be good for AMD.
Yes, I don't want to see them die. Eventhough the Conroe owns AMD's ass right now, we wouldn't want a monopoly.

Good financially for AMD, but Dell have really messed up recently - it takes them this long to sell AMD cpus while they've been better than Intel and now that Intel are coming back they start selling AMD.

AMD is still definatly able to keep up now. :) All those people that thought AMD targeting the server market was dumb, feel dumb now don't ya?
