By this point I get the feeling that we need to start a massive cross-forum initiative, come up with the specs we want for an actual gaming monitor and then mail them together with the list of people signed to every screen manufacturer.
Let's see what our pipe dream would be:
- 1920x1200 or higher resolution
- 24 inch or larger diagonal
- 120Hz, with latest DisplayPort and HDMI revisions, USB3 hub an extra
- non-TN panel (don't say it can't be done for 120Hz, TV's have managed for years now)
- preferably no inbuilt speakers
- not glossy
Even a 1080p 120Hz screen brings a 580/6970 to its knees in 3D mode. Very few people will ever spend $1000 for crossfire/sli just to run 3D. Its probably less than 0.1% of the market. There just isnt the demand for screens like that.
Also most TV's dont do true 120Hz like computer monitors. 100Hz+ Tv's are just 60Hz with interpolated frames to make it appear smoother.
I'm not aware of any TV that will do true 120Hz when you hook it up to a computer.
Active 3D?
All I see in the product specs is absence of any mention of 120Hz, and touting of polarized 3D glasses...
Edit:
@buggalugs
Who cares about the "3D", I want my 120Hz refresh rate! ;p
Tons of TV have screens that can pull a 120Hz refresh. While it's true that so far none of them accept 120Hz input and half (or more) of the frames are calculated internally, the fact is that those are not TN panels and they still refresh at 120 times a second. That was my point.
