AMD A8-3870K Overclocked to 5.87 GHz CPU, 1.32 GHz GPU in Suicide-Run
A Japanese overclocker achieved a 96% CPU clock speed increase and 121% GPU clock speed increase during a "suicide-run" using a retail AMD A8-3870K Black Edition processor. The feat was conducted by OverclockWorks, a tech-community and store for Japanese overclockers. A CPU clock speed of 5,875 MHz was achieved using a base clock speed of 125 MHz, and multiplier of 47.0x, and a brutal core voltage of 1.872V. The integrated Radeon HD 6550D GPU was overclocked to 1,327 MHz from its default 600 MHz. The overclocker claimed that his feat is "probably the world's best", though, like some of the most unstable suicide-runs, the system was too unstable to run benchmarks. Apart from the A8-3870K, the test-bench consisted of ASUS F1A75-V Pro motherboard, G.Skill RipjawsZ memory, and a certain SilverStone PSU.

Isn't that much of a feat really when you remember these APUs are based off the Athlons. People were clocking those well too. But combined with the GPU on die, it gets a nod.
Fastest K7 was at 3.0 GHz with a 1.8VCore
AMD had Black Edition processors for ages...

Immediately changes to AMD "stealing" the naming scheme from Intel.
This thread is now about pizza. K stands for pineapple on the pizza ordering scheme. Intel ripped off Dominos.
Anyway, back on topic, this is quite a feat, considering the non-extreme motherboard used.
I'm really tempted to get one to replace my aging 2nd rig , but want to see more regular overclocks to get an idea what i can expect on air cooling or a simple water loop.
I still can't believe how much of a fail bulldozer has become, considering that the Fusion APUs are pretty decent chips.
The only scary thing was that it needs vcore somewhere between 1,45-1,6v to achieve that speed, depending on the system used. Though certainly it can't compete with SB @4ghz.
Still,pretty good nonetheless.
I was just making a point Intel started using K in this generation of CPUs and AMD just randomly thought they would to, Its just like if a older generation like your granddad started saying dude to be hip.
how you ask?, have you ever heard of Radeon HD 3870? that predates intels i5s by years
