LG Enters the Blu-ray Market

LG Electronics (LG), has launched Blu-ray compatible Full HD desktop PCs and a Blu-ray super-multi DVD writer. The company also plans to release a Blu-ray DVD player and a Blu-ray disc by the end of the year, aiming the Audio/ Video and storage market. LG's Blu-ray RW, the Super Multi Blue (GBW-H10N), can store up to 25 GB of data on a single disc. The Super Multi Blue can write to Blu-ray Recordable Discs at 4x, which is the world's first, and Blu-ray Rewritable Discs at 2x. It is compatible with Blu-ray discs of all sizes and is also backward compatible with standard CDs and DVDs. LG will initially sell the Super Multi Blue in Korea and major European markets including Germany and France.

my personel experiences with optical disk drives lead me to say LG and samsung drives Suck and are very unreliable

Unlucky because LG and Samsung drives are one of the best on the market.

blu-ray just sucks in general. the only silly monkeys that are gonna buy one are the ones with the HDMI sockets in there HDTV's. but even, they aint gonna shell out just yet.

this all HD-DVD and Blu-Ray crap just feels forced and i aint ready yet to give up on DVD.

and that is why you are the average joe. It's the same thing as with the introduction of DVD, no average person wanted to give up their library of VHS. The audio and video improvements in HDDVD are seriously INCREDIBLE. When you actually hear the difference in DolbyDigital+ and TrueHD, you will be a believer.

Isn't blu-ray the more powerful technology in the format wars? I really haven't been paying as much attention to this whole issue as i probably should because it all seemed like a big jumbled mess :P

lol no. BluRay's entire marketing campaign is the "potential" of being better. There are no technological advantages beyond the fact that they claim the ability to have more layers = more space. So far, HDDVD currently has double layer 30gb discs in mass production while Bluray is struggling with single layer 25gb. Higher production costs, ten year old encoding schemes and wastefully uncompressed audio are burying the Bluray camp. While HDDVD is using DD+ & TrueHD for audio with VC-1 for video, with amazing results.

Dual layer 30gb bluray discs have not even made it out of lab yet, while HDDVD has demonstrated triple layer 45gb discs.

Agreed, and IMO one of the best value brands out there. I've had a Samsung TV, DVD-CDRW combo, DVD-RW, CRT monitor, 2 DVD players & surround sound system. They've lasted 6+ years each with no problems, except 1 poor speaker wire connection after 4 years.

I'm a Samsung believer.

Samsung makes notoriously awful picture quality wise DVD players. Nice DLP's and of course RAM chips though :)

i like samsung in everything apart from the CD rom drives, everyone i know who has had them before has had problems, Samsung may currently own in the TV market but for me liteon own in the optical disk drive market

The HD-DVD had more sales since the release but Blu-Ray had higher revenues. That could help BR.

I wonder how long the two will co-exist? I can't help but think that it's almost inevitable after extensive marketing wars, consumer loyalism fueds, etc., that one must come out on top. If you look at any media types that co-existed, i.e. laserdisk, vhs, PAL, dvd, unless they gain seperate follows that are continents apart (kinda like how only Germany liked David Hasselhoff's music :laugh:), one usually succeeds in taking over the market eventually.

Thoughts?
