I can only imagine it will perform significantly better than the stock cooler otherwise they won't sell any. It apparently supports up to a TDP of 65W effectively, now as the 5350 is only 25W at stock there should be a reasonable amount of headroom there.

It wont, ive tested there 120mm cooler vs a stock AMD cooler and it failed, Not happy with GELID sorry.

In general or this particular model? I have owned some outstanding Gelid performance cooling products in the past but nothing recently.

As happy as I am to finally see aftermarket AM1 CPU coolers, this doesn't look much like a step up. It looks like the stock cooler but with a wider fan. The block doesn't even appear to be made of aluminum. The 8.65 EUR/11 USD price tag seems to be in line with that. Yes, it's for a low power socket, but come on, GELID! Show us some fancy-pants stuff! It's still an aftermarket cooler.

I think most of you here are missing the point of this cooler. It is not supposed to perform better than the stock cooler. Heck, if it performs just as well as the stock cooler I'll be happy and it will serve its purpose. The point of this cooler is it is only 2/3 the height of the stock cooler.

So by definition that's a complaint with a specific model, not with GELID in general.

Thinner is better, yeah...but I'd rather see some thin-mini ITX AM1 boards. 26mm is a perfect height for cases like the Silverstone PT13.

For $11, when the fan does eventually die I'd just buy a new cooler.

I'd like to see one with a larger fan to put just a little airflow over the board components. Lots of the miniature cases these AM1 APUs are going in have no option for fans or only small commonly loud fans. A 90-100mm fan would get the airflow and be quiet.

Looks good if we're going for as small as possible.

All I can think about when I see AM1 stuff is how great a nanoITX AM1 board would be.

This thing only weighs 132grams with the fan.
Aluminium weighs a little under 170 pounds per cubic foot while copper is under 560, iron between 440-490 and 490 for steel.
Other metals with similar weight to aluminium are beryllium and magnesium of which beryllium has similar heat conductivity as aluminium but it sure as hell ain't made of beryllium because of cost.
Magnesium has worse conducitivity and it isn't really that expensive in bulk quantities but as a metal it reacts with water where as aluminium costs very very very little in bulk and is paramagnetic and really ductile. And since aluminium is the most abundant metal here in earth..

*Just as an FYI, going back from Nov. 18th this year all the way back to Jan 1st 2009, the average price for aluminium per lb (453.592 grams) has been 0.9039$.

i removed the 2x92mm fans on my 7970 and replaced them with 2x120mm ziptied onto the heatpipes :P

To me, it looks like it's been mixed with some sort of ceramic. It could be the lighting on the pictures or the lack of finish; it may very well be pure aluminium. Whatever it is, it certainly doesn't look inspiring.
