i do ... since the introduction of the Naga crap (which have been replaced by countless multi button mouse that were a tons better and most of the time cheaper than it  ) and a lot of user do too: those who play MMO or thosE who need a lots of shrotcut binding in CAD/PAO/DAO
as for gaming, it's always better to only have to focus on WASD with one hand, since your thumb is free on the other hand .... why not use it for more than 1-2 button ... (logic behind multi thumb button mouses)

now i am on a G502 from logitech .... only 3 button on the thumb and 2 extra on the index .... 5 is the lowest limite i can accept as a number of macro button for a mouse.

I use the Logitech g600 mouse. I use 14 buttons out of 20 on my mouse for World of Warcraft. The rest are windows related shortcut keys. It basically allows you to free yourself from the keyboard a bit more involving games that have a lot of abilities and or macros. Less key travel over the keyboard gives me more awareness to whatever game I'm playing. I have a habit of accidentally hitting the wrong key on occasion when I get over towards the number 7 through 0 on my keyboard. That's simply my opinion though. A lot of people have different ideals when it comes to their gaming needs. I know plenty that are fine with one or two buttons on their mouse.

When it comes to a standard fps, then no this mouse is not needed.

people who play MMO bind each button to a macro. you can also bind each button to do something in Windows.
