ASUS Launches the ROG Rampage VI Extreme Encore

ASUS today launched the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Rampage VI Extreme Encore socket LGA2066 motherboard. This board replaces the original ROG Rampage VI Extreme from the product-stack, but is positioned a notch below the Extreme Omega. It still has a beefy EATX PCB, but with slight variations to the layout. A few features such as the U.2 port are removed, while some of the connectivity options receive major updates. To begin with, the Extreme Encore features Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) WLAN (the Extreme Omega has the older 802.11ac standard). The Extreme Encore also features a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, which combines 10 Gbps wiring from two ports to a single port. The wired networking is unchanged, with a 10 GbE interface driven by an Aquantia controller, and a 1 GbE driven by an Intel i219-V.

ASUS also reworked the CPU VRM compared to the original Rampage VI Extreme. The new Extreme Encore features a 16-phase CPU VRM with Infineon TDA21472 power-stages, and a large fan-heatsink with more surface-area than even the heatsink featured on the Extreme Omega. The memory VRM is a 4-phase (2+2 phase) setup. The expansion slot area has been made a little more usable, with x16, space, x4, x16, space x16, compared to the x16, double-space, x16, x4, x16 layout of the Extreme Omega. The Extreme Encore features the latest ROG design scheme, with even more acrylic aRGB diffusers. The rest of the board's feature-set is identical to that of the Extreme Omega. The ROG Rampage VI Extreme Encore is expected to be priced at USD $649.99.

Meh the original Rampage VI Extreme still remains as the best looking motherboard. This one is hardly a successor to it with the removal of PCIE 3.0 on the first slot and replaced its unique design with a generic looking one that looks like it belongs to mainstream board instead of flagship level HEDT board.

at least this is still a worthy mobo compared to those overpriced or similarly priced X570 boards that has a freaking fan for the chipset...

This motherboard also features a fan not 1 but 2 fans to cool VRM which way worse than ones we see on X570 boards. At this point Intel HEDT is a piece of crap to be avoided like a plague.

I think the rampage V 10th anniversary was the best looking board.

I changed from the original to a Omega and the M.2/VRM cooling is well worth it, plus it overclocks better and its just more stable, but this board here whats is its point when its pretty much an Omega with less smarties on top.

A missed feature is the Color LCD over the LED screen on the other boards.

Looks like ROG brought back a small amount of the holographic lighting from the 1st Rampage VI Extreme of 2017, and a larger display - looks pretty cool. :D

And just look at all those power phases.

I won't be buying one, but so love to look at the new boards.

Have a feeling ROG won't be making the same mistake again with VRM as they did with Maximus XI. (The Apex 11 being the exception)

The Maximus XII (12) Series should be great.

Not sure if anyone noticed, they support 256GB ram. This may indicate, 256GB ram support may be coming in a bios update... so, 32GB ram sticks should be supported on Z390 AND X299.

This might be from the Cascade Lake-X memory controller or at least according to toms hardware it is: www.tomshardware.com/news/cascade-lake-x-10000-series-branding,40202.html
It'd be nice to see older boards get BIOS updates to support 32gb DIMMs though.

To be honest, the original rampage was the only board that needed an upgrade on VRMs, I think they just ramped up power stages purely because they could as it's generally not needed when active cooling is in place.
