S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1.0003 Patch Released

THQ has issued the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl 1.0003 patch, updating US and European releases of the game. There are patches to update the original game, as well as 1.0001 release (if you have that one installed your save games will be preserved). The 1.0003 release offers more bug and crash fixes, plus the 16:9 aspect ratio now works correctly.

I just finished STALKER last night, the only bug I ever saw was reputation changing (excellent->terrible) after completing some quests (not a bug?)
Excellent game though, played it on my X300 :D

If my STALKER copy wouldnt constantly crash, I would play it more :p IMO more weapons should be added to the game like a 9mm USP pistol with the flashlight attachment or laser sight (laser sight would help a lot when your in those areas that are so dark your torch does nothing) Would be nice if there was some way for you to repair your own armour too.

Personally I think having the ability to repair your own armour will take a lot of the meaning out of the game....this feature is not new to games, Ive played Bet On Soldier where you have the ability to get 1 of your team mate NPC's to repair your armour for you. even though you needed the cash for this NPC to perform the function it took a lot out of the game.

In a lot of games there will be medics (& monks/priests if your on the MMORPG side of gaming) & they just heal you.

If u need to repair your armour in a way that shows how noobish you are. as this option unless its dissabled for multiplayer might make it unfair on others who maybe cannot repair theirs

A prime example of a game that uses armour correctly would be Counter Strike. you buy the armour then its your job to avoid enemy gunfire as it could hurt you & also damage your armour.

saying all this......

It is fun just walking into an open area & hosing everything down....

Armour doesnt need to be repaired. you just need a bit more FPs savvy

Stalker is dependant on your armour. there are lots of crap suits, and a few good ones - the good ones would last barely 1/4 of the game if you rushed it, and there IS an NPC to repair items - he just doesnt do it (broken/bug)

I got a mod to make armour invulnerable (as it was in 1.00 vanilla) since theres no repair it made the game a lot harder.

Its nothing to do with noobism, its to do with the fact armour is fucking expensive in STALKER when it does eventually wear out. So as to real life, if armour can be repaired it is - you dont go get brand new armour.

From waht freedom said, i dont think he knows much about stalker - his comments seem to be about RPG style games in general.

Unpatched stalker, armour was invincible. Patched stalker, it wasnt. and its not like you could walk for 5 minutes and get another set - most of the in-game armour is one of a kind, and very rare to find.

Its not just bullet proofing either, you need it for radiation and anomalie protection later in the game, and if your armour is wrecked half way there... well you cant go forward or back, GG guys.

Very true. Then because the AI isnt scripted, you have those damn annoying ambushes to watch for too - and when one does happen (which it will) all you can do is dive for some good solid cover, hucker down with a good weapon with a scope and start sniping as many as you can before they get too close.

well alot of things are scripted now cause they had some many problem. i dont know where to find it but i had it at one time (a file), that someone found out how to unlock the game so it wasnt sricpted so much. thats why it got delay a few times cause they toke out sooo much stuff i have all the beta builds. the build2215 had to be the best cause there was so much extra stuff in it.

And that's why I'm so disappointed in the game. I remember reading about all kinds of extra content 18 months ago that they never put into the final game. Mutant horses, rats, psychic cats, some kind of shadow creature. They even released video of your character cornered by a dozen rats. Why would you do that then remove it from the game? I was really looking forward to fighting off a mind bending cat but after only hearing it 5 times I realized it wasn't going to make any appearances. I was really hoping this would be the game to bend the FPS/RPG generas together better than Deus Ex, but now I have to keep my fingers crossed for Fallout 3.

Well, it's still a good game, but I have the same problem as Ketxxx, as my copy keeps crashing. I can play for about 5-10 minutes at the least, some times for up to an hour, but it always ends up crashing.
Also, I really take a huge performance hit, even overclocked, settings low, etc.
The only thing they can do to make it better is fix the remaining bugs and amp up performance a bit.

Also, v1.002 was a sort of testing patch, released to the Russian gamers only me thinks. Sort of a middle ground between 1.001 and 1.003 from what I heard. they probably fixed bugs, and made more, heralding the release of 1.003
