World of Warcraft tale of romance Goes awry when police Arrest 'kidnapper'

Two people fell in love with each other over one of the most addictive MMORPGs ever, World of Warcraft. The couple spent long hours on the phone together, played through countless quests as a couple, and even talked about marriage. There were just two problems with this couple. The groom is 17, and the bride is 31. The two made plans to meet, and the bride flew over from Australia to North Carolina to pick up her dream date on June 12th. Unfortunately for her, anyone under the age of 18 is a minor in the state of North Carolina. After the groom's parents reported him as missing, the police apprehended the couple as they were trying to hitch a ride to Australia on June 26th. The groom is home, almost certainly grounded. However, the bride faired much worse. On July 11th, she goes on trial for the attempted abduction of a minor. If the bride is found guilty, she will get two years behind bars in an American jail. Australian customs is working hard to get the bride set free.

Wow... at 17 I wasn't even thinking about marriage. Moreover, I was thinking, "How the f*&^ am I going to afford college!" Actually, I'm 21 and I'm still thinking the same thing as a senior...

Oh, don't worry, it'll hit you -- one day you're just sitting in your dorm room alone playing CS:S and the next day you're bitching with your wife about why, no, it's not okay if you sell your nice car just so that she can have the latest model Passat.

But, anywho, I digress.

And I'm quite sure the legal age of consent everywhere in Australia is 16, unless you want to have anal sex in Queensland, in which it's 18.

Laws are funny things, eh? What are politicians thinking when they make this stuff up?

Just because the law exists doesn't mean you have to go by the book for EVERYTHING.

Ever tried that line with a judge?

Here -- go smoke some weed and get arrested, and then try that line when you're in court. Tell us how it turns out.

If they both consent to loving eachother then who gives a shit. 17 is plenty old enough, this is just a case of losers who can't accept that sometimes you HAVE to bend the rules, or that sometimes the rules don't apply...

Assholes.

The conclusion of this thread is that the Congress is to blame that allows 16 year olds to drive...So instead of kids even saying THANK GOD THAT I CAN DRIVE A CAR AT 16 instead of 18 like the rest of the world they say BEND THE RULES and F*** THEM ALL.....
Nice :)

If that woman spends two years in jail because she didn't check on a couple of laws, I'll say that she'll give a pretty big shit, wouldn't you?

I'm talking from the law's point of view, not the woman.

The law doesn't give a shit either way. Its only purpose is to enforce the rules handed to it by the Legislature. :P

Now them -- they're a bunch of assholes, right on.

MusselsJust because they met in WoW, doesnt mean they didnt talk daily OUT of the game too - i've met lots of people online first, in games and chatrooms and gone to meet them in real life years later.

They mention they met in WoW and gamed a lot, but i'm yet to see any of this kind of article mention - did they use webcam and voice chat (video calls) to each other? how much of their gaming time was spent alone with just each other (henceforth, it might as well have been a chat program with distractions)

I hate WoW but this is just sad, pity the kid wasnt 18 already.
we have some stuff in common i met alot of good freinds from this site!!!! we talk on aim and shit regularly about unrelated things some live 30miles from me in the city and weve talked about meeting cause i want to see his sweet c2d rig. as for wow i HATE wow i cant tell you how much i lothe that game i really really wish it didnt exist i mean ppl DIE over that game as for the kid he was old enough i got kicked out at 17 because i didnt want to take french 2 and my uncle wanted me too iv been on my own ever sionce i laugh though at kids who are like ugh i want to move out it is NOT fun at all i mean iv had some good times but for the most part you have to try all the time and these 15-16 year old kids aint ready as for this guy 1 she's australian dude id get hitched their f'in hot dude as for his age he's most deff old enough but seeing as mommy and daddy called the police id say he's a well protected pretty boy as in look i get to barrow dad's bmw for vacation at any rate i think he's old enough and i wish the news was that he flew away with his girl on the other hand dude wow r u serious?

well to break it down here you go.....if you need a period. To understand or "know" when to take a breath. Than you

A. need to learn how to breath instead of getting instruction. and
B.learn to read inside your head.

I have to laugh, remember when EQ was on top and everyone was saying how much they hated it and D&G a while back too.

The laws are made based upon what the general public sees as best (technically the representatives of the public but I don't see many of them getting taken out of office . . .).
It is a federal law not a state law that 18 is the "legal" or adult age and that 21 is the drinking age. Driving is based on state laws.
In order to leave home or join the military before 18 parental consent is required. I know I joined the military and left home at 17, the military required my parents consent.

Games are what you make them, thats human choice. Being an adult should require the ability to survive (can you do/pay rent, laundry, job, etc).

LOL pass that law and we are going to have alot of people over 20 that are still going to be classed as children. Some adults can be so stupid.
