AMD Releases Two New TV Wonders

AMD today announced two new multimedia TV Wonder products - the TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe and TV Wonder 600 USB. The TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe uses single PCIe x1 slot and features dual tuners: one to receive analog and one to receive digital broadcasts. Both tuners can operate simultaneously, allowing users to watch and record analog TV, "free-to-air" HDTV, unencrypted digital ClearQAM cable TV2 and FM stations. The new TV Wonder 600 Hi-Speed USB is a powerful High Definition PVR packed into a sleek and elegant USB 2.0 stick. This device can be used with either your laptop or desktop PC. It does not have dual tuner functionality, but can easily process free-to-air HDTV, digital or analog TV broadcasts. Both new tuner products are fully compatible with Windows Vista Media Center and Windows XP Media Center Edition. Expect the TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe and TV Wonder 600 USB to show up in September.

Wouldnt mind 1 of these with the FM tuner!!! as my dad has nurfed my net connection to a few hours a day to force me to get a job :( So I got no Hi-Fi. but I do have a Gaming pc which is more or less pretty useless as the time I get online aint really worth getting into a good game of BF2 :(

XFi + 5.1 Surround Sound + FM Radio/TV = Awesomeness

Now if they would just release the Cable Card tuners to the general public, instead of only getting them in a pre-built machine.

This is sweet, I almost bought the old PCI single tuner version awhile back... now I'm glad I didn't.

I might get the USB one for my laptop too. Laptop + GPS + HDTV = Heaven on the Road

ATIs new OCURCable cards are only available through OEMs right now. That is what Wil E is talking about. Good news is, they arent really working. Maximum PC had a huge time of trying to get them to work with Comcast, and after 3 days, they gave up. However, they show promise.

I like these cards, one even uses the PCIe 1x slot, which is awesome.

You can't tune pay channels, or your cable provider's custom content, With the new Cable Card tuners you can. The cable card unlocks everything you are subscribed to, not just basic cable. You can only get them by buying a prebuilt machine. The US Government tried to force the Cable Companies to allow them, the cable companies bitched and moaned, so the Govt let them compromise, by only allowing the OCUR cards to be sold in prebuilt machines by certified vendors.
