New World Record In 3DMark 06

Only a couple of days ago Shamino succeeded in managing to reach 25.733 using a pair of GeForce 8800 Ultras but it seems that it didn't take long for his record to be broken. Kinc took first place at the ORB and now holds both the 3Dmark 05 and 06 records. The new record is 25.867 points by using two ASUS Radeon HD2900XT's running in a CrossFire configuration alongside of an Intel QX6700 overclocked to 5029MHz. The HD2900XT's and the CPU were cooled with liquid nitrogen thus making it possible to overclock the GPU's to the awesome 1140MHz core while memories ran at 960MHz. AMD/ATI's Radeon 2900 XT now holds both the first and second place in 3DMark 05, and first and third in 3DMark 06. The thing is how long will it take for someone to use Liquid Nitrogen to cool a couple of 8800 Ultras thus beating Kinc's record ?

HellasVagabondHe wouldn't had reached such a big OC on the core if he had also OCed the memories a lot.
How do you figure? I swear I've seen people with big clocks on both.

Most times the Overclocks are somewhat interconnected thus in many cases people have reached higher core speeds by lowering their memory speed. Could be the thermal factor or something else, i haven't really looked into the matter.

how next time we will see AMD processors.. :) hope to see phenom.. I think 3DMark 06 is cpu dependent..

and also.. hope to see Intel chipset using SLI.. crossfire are more efficient than SLI.. I think.. :D

it doesnt matter, both dry ice and liquid No2 cool to about the same temp...which means both of the cards were on equal footing.

It goes to show that the 2900xt isnt the laughing stock of the new DX10 card world. Also, he beat the ultras that wrre sli's (I think he used ultras)

Well, either way, I say he's sandbagging. I mean, it took him what?, a day and a half to take the crown back? That alone tells me he knew he had more to give,

it never was the laughing stock, and the 1gb embarrases most of NV's offerings :p

How much money do those guys have???

I gots no chance of this... I score 7856 in 3DMark01, so god knows how bad it'll be in 06!

Same temps ? Liquid nitrogen can freeze you inside out in a matter of seconds....You could sleep in dry ice and it would take hours for your organs to freeze. I know this is a weird way to compare those two but its the best way to make people understand that liquid nitrogen is far better than dry ice. Why do you guys think that he used Liquid Nitrogen instead of dry ice ? For sport ?

Liquid nitrogen = -197 C
Dry Ice= -109°
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Almost twice as cold

How come a lot of people mix LN2 and dry ice?

It's been stating either in this thread or the one about Shimano getting the top, Dry ice=$ compared to LN2=$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No I was saying, if LN2 is so much colder than Dry Ice, then why do people commonly mix the two together for LN2/Dry ice.

I didn't think they did? It was Dry Ice for the Ultras when Shimano made his run, and LN2 for the CPU. LN2 was too expensive for him to use with the Ultras at that time, or he didn't have enough etc. Is that what you're asking?

No, overclockers mix the two substances together in a single pot in most cases....

Oh.....beats me then. Maybe not enough LN2 so they try to get it cooler by throwing the little they have in with dry ice? My theory anyways....

Probably, I remember seeing a few examples, but I can't find them now, oh well.
