R800 And DX11 By AMD

According to a roadmap released by Hardspell AMD is not only planning to switch graphics card development to DirectX 11 but also to release the third generation Opteron platform in 2009.
AMD also indicates that in 2009 the notebook platform will provide supports for DirectX 11 while the RD8XX symbol may indicate that AMD's new DX11 GPU will be called the R800.

Isnt Intel already on 45nm? I had the impression that the E6850 was 45nm....maybe I have my lines crossed

Edit: No the 6850 is 65nm, I was looking on Fleabay and there was a new one for sale and under the specs it said 45NM! Checked Intels site...it's a 65er.

So just when there are plenty of DX10 titles out there and fast cheap DX10 cards, we get the same thing "don't buy a DX10 card, it's so last year, go for DX11 card!". :) Am I the only one who is thinking that new DX version is just a way to sell same powered cards as old ones for a greater price ?) DX9 served us quite good for a long time (5 years and counting) 2-3 years for DX10 seems kinda short.

On the other hand if DX11 would come next year, that would mean a cheap DX10 card for me :P

I wonder if we will be forced into buying into Windows2009MegaEdition in order to utilise DX11 ;)

Thats lame, they are going to force Nvidia, game developers, and the general public to switch over to DX11 only 2 years after DX10.

where does it mention the R800? Also, that roadmap is confusing. I've read numerous articles that say AM3 is coming out next year. Not sure I trust this.

I was also wondering about that, must be a typo, although considering Microsoft plans an new operating system quickly it's hard to say that they won't do that, but why change the architecture so fast, because currently the hardware hasn't kept up nor updated enough to properly use what was just released ( DX10 ).
