R800 And DX11 By AMD

According to a roadmap released by Hardspell AMD is not only planning to switch graphics card development to DirectX 11 but also to release the third generation Opteron platform in 2009.
AMD also indicates that in 2009 the notebook platform will provide supports for DirectX 11 while the RD8XX symbol may indicate that AMD's new DX11 GPU will be called the R800.

Is it really necassary to look that far into the future "from a business stand point"when deciding new products?

If theres one thing I've learned from the Bush administration, roadmaps don't seem to work. They should label it Roadmap to Bankruptcy.

My science teacher said something about technology doubling every 3 days by 2010 or so...

OK... so if technology doubles every 3 days in 2010, then you buy a 20GB GFX card, then the next day, your'e like "OMFGWTFBBQ THERE'S A 40GB PCI-E x2048 CARD OUT OMG!!!!"

Not gonna happen, I think.

HellasVagabondDX11 will propably come with Windows Vienna....
Seems to me like another bid to force people to upgrade too soon... operating systems need to at least be supported with good updates for at least 6 to 10 years... to me vista was rushed and won't be worth using until at least service pack 1 comes out for it.

Well actually this is great news. Also, if they do the drivers right, we may not need new GPUS for DX11. The APIs and what not should be able to be manipulated to allow it to work on DX11 hardware.

CPU roadmap looks nice, 32nm in 2009!!!! FTW!!!

Damm I hope I dont have to buy a new comp in 2009 lol. i'll retire theses parts into a htpc build or something like that.

I heard long ago that dx11 will be a bigger upgrade over dx10, than dx10 to dx9.. I look forward to it and Im sure, atleast very hopeful that game developers will utilize it more than dx10 for this reason.

Edit: yes I'll be back around more often again!

It dont mean jack if there are no DX11 games, if DX11 is anything like DX10 then 3 years after there might be like 20 true games to enjoy.

You, my friend, are the king of bump.

And this "news" doesn't surprise me at all. Radeon gets DX11 as Geforce gets DX10.1

And we are still stuck with only a fairly decent handful of DX10.0 games!
