China to Train Police Officers With Terrorism-Themed Computer Game Counter-Strike

Over 300 police officers in China's northern port city Tianjin were "mobilized" to an internet cafe Wednesday for a three-day competition of the terrorism-themed computer game Counter-Strike. Han Zhen, a tactical instructor of Tianjin police, says the game is a close resemblance to real-life scenarios and enhances the terrorism awareness of Tianjin's police force while also sharpening their anti-terrorist skills. Since the competition was announced in March, almost half of the entire Tianjin force are now regular players.

Counter Strike and real life are so different. You can't kill someone as easily in real life as you can in a game. It takes a lot of guts, very stable conscience and skill/experiance with a weapon to kill someone in real life where as you can take an average 5 year old kid, hook him up with a computer and have him kill something (probably offline)

We can't let any of those so called "parent groups" (or Jack Thompson) see this... if they do they'll just try to get CS banned.

Do you have experience, hat? :p

On a more serious note, they have to be more serious and do some serious training, seriously! ;)

Strategic training, not gun fighting. See, most players just head off on their own or either camp / merge into unorganized groups. I am a strategic player and try to get my team to specifically be set up in a position NOT to let the opposing team advance, or force them into a situation where they are hopeless. Sure, its gg no re in real life but tactical training is useful.

Tactics? Does that word even apply to CS? lol... the only tactics I have seen are to mic spam, chat spam, flash/smoke spam, and radio spam... that and everyone rushing one direction or everyone camping spawn with paras and awps. CS only hold entertainment value... it's not training material. If they want a game to help train their police officers they should just mod America's Army (or even Insurgency) as that's more realistic than any other FPS I've seen.

My thoughts exactly.... fuel for the fire I guess.

I fail to see many practical parallels. If anything, it would probably make them more likely to use lethal force when dealing with a situation if you tell them that CS is like real life.

id think they would be better off using Ravenshield, id say that is far more tactical than Counter Strike

When a criminal gets a shot off first, cops will shout "HAX"! Then start texting others while getting shot.

They should use America's Army, something more realistic than CS and they could learn more about their allie/enemy (US) at the same time! And what, AA is even more tactical than CS!? NOW WAY. Although I guess the average Chinese computer than can only run StarCraft and CS couldn't handle AA to well even on low.

I don't think they were actually training, that's probably just what they told everyone. ;)

No wonder shit from them is always breaking down. Not to mention, the most populous country is retarded.
