AMD Announces Price Cuts on Desktop CPUs

AMD has announced price reductions of its single-core Athlon 64 and dual-core Athlon 64 X2 CPUs for desktop platforms and has added a new Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition to its lineup. The price cuts range from 5% to 28%. Pricing for 1000-unit tray quantities:

This is ok, but I won't consider AMD competitive price wise until the 5000+ BE is down in the $95 range.

Hey, cut 'em some slack -- the darn thing has an unlocked multiplier, for goodness sakes. They can't be making that much money on the thing as it is. :p

Unlocked multiplier or not, it doesn't perform where it needs to be in its price range for the overclocking crowd.

This chip is far cheaper than I thought it would be. It should be around 160USD IMO.

I guess if your on a budget then you musct have a pretty hard time choosing which one to get. not to mention that Intel C2D's give you more bang per buck despite AMD's price cuts.

so unless u really really cant afford to fork out a tiny liddle bit more to get a pretty cheapo C2D black edition should still kick ass even tho its not as overclockable........
