3870 X2 Goes On Sale

A Dutch site called Salland Automatisering has started to accept pre-orders for AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card, which has an expected release date of 23rd of January. Earlier reports suggested a retail price of $449 US, although the Dutch site has set a price of €425 which works out at around $615. Admittedly taxes in Europe are higher, and this site may have added a premium as it is the first to allow pre-orders, so $449 in the US isn't completely out of the question.

I think it will sell more or less by 400 dollars, in europe we pay normally 1.5 * price in the US ( and the euro and the pound are worth more than the Us dollar right now...grrr). Some items I have seen them to by priced there by half the price here. ( European Taxes !!!)

From what Ive read the 3870 will do crossfire with the 3870x2 and thats my goal.

When I get my x48 board Im gonna give that a go and hope it works, Ive also been making up a water cooling system for the 3870x2, Im hoping it uses the same GPU mounting holes as the 3870

That store sucks.:D

They just do it for advertisement.
When you order a card from them most of the time it takes forever to receive it.

Once again. You see what kind of prices we europeans have to live with. That isnt just a starting price for something new, thats propably the standard price here in europe. Its like we have to almost pay as much for one card, that americans pay for two?? No wonder the pc market is dying as a game plattform. Thank god that nvidia and ati are starting to realize that. Ergo 8800gt/3870...

Edit:Just one more thing about EU vs US. We pay more, but we always also have to wait for stuff(new cpu/gpu´s etc) and when they get here(specially in sweden), there are very few of them. So for an example, I consider my self an computer enthusiast, but even if I want to buy the "best" stuff its often hard to get youre hands on it. Most retailers here buy in the parts mostly they think will sell good (q6600) and others and very few of the highest end parts. Many times there are long waiting lists that you have to get in, or other choices are to order from some other countries but then the price also gets too high for my taste. So mostly I buy parts like my Q6600 because I dont have a choice. So long story short, we should atleast have cheaper prices with the low availability. :)

it might be a lot of price gouging over the anticipation of the release, and no one is sure just what stock availability will look like just yet.

meaning it can be done?

see i have heard that it will drop the frame buffer and memory to the lowest common denominator, as in 256k & 512mb
