they have half the bus so theyre slower, closer to the 9600GT

a 192bit bus with 96 stream units at 1600mhz

I don't think these will perform any better than a 8800GTS G80

I really wanted to get this card, but after looking at the reviews, it overclocks very badly with that 192 bit bus and 96 stream units so I think I will keep what I have

I doubt it. Too much was cut down. These are intended to compete with ATI's 2900GT or HD3850, and nvidia's own 8600GTS.

All they are is GT cores that couldnt scale to the range of the GT spec.

yeah these are a lower end for budget pc's, they are for people who only have 150 bucks and still want to be able to play crysis on low.

Heh, Low you mean Ultra low, cause the Top end cant even maintain anything higher than 30 frames.

Sheesh, ya'll must be talking about something over 1280x1024, cause my machine does around 25-30 fps with all high (except textures and shadows) on XP x64 and about the same with all medium on Vista x64 (both without AA) at 1440x900 (which is almost 1280x1024).

This just could go head on against the HD3850 256M, maybe a narrower memory bus but more memory. Let's see it priced at $169~$179

quite likely. its already $250 Au, and if it drops to $200 or so then $170 USD is about right.

we now have three cards that look identical at the first glance: 8800 GT, 8800 GS, 9600 GT

its the 6800GS all over again, a midrange part to hold over untill the 9600GTS is ready, yes the GT is but there is another SKU that was leaked, though no pics of it, but its 64 shaders, 256bit bus and 512mb of memory, clocks are uncertain but its rumored to be G94-400 where as G94-300 is 9600GT.

If they price them that high, nobody will buy them considering how much prices on 8800GTS 320/640 models have dropped in the last few days.

There is 8800GTS 320MB going for $184 @ Newegg right now:
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127328

EVGA has a 320MB model going for $199, and I saw an ECS 640MB model going for cheap too, but its out of stock. Also, you can still find some 3850 Radeons in stock @TigerDirect for $150.

If they price these neutered cards @ "$169~$179", it will give more incentive to people to go for cheaper ATI alternatives, or go for the older 8800GTS cards. Well, maybe that's the idea, "motivating" people to help them clean old 8800GTS stocks.

the thing being the GTS G80 will run out of stock. when that happens, the 384MB GS should drop in price (due to not being launch prices anymore)

actully i wouldnt be suprised if it preforms real close to 8800GTS, as the 8800GTS couldnt use its bandwith to begin with as the G92 showed, its shader limited like a mofo.

you're going to need a lot more proof than that to convince us.

Um.. Okay Bob! Can you send me the awesome, custom O/S that you designed for your system then? It blows away anything Microsoft could make!:toast:
