LG Display Develops Full HD 3D Monitor Panel with Enhanced Brightness

LG Display Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced today that it has succeeded in developing a Full HD 23-inch 3D LCD panel with enhanced brightness for monitors.

The 3D panel employs LG Display's proprietary technology to realize Full HD images with twice the brightness of conventional 3D LCD panels. The product boasts the world's highest brightness among 3D displays. 3D LCDs apply time-sequential technologies so that the right and left eyes see different images. This makes the images look three-dimensional for human eye. In conventional 3D LCDs, the technologies were generally installed outside the panel or into the viewing glass.
However LG Display embedded most of the 3D technologies directly in the panel, which enabled this product to make 3D viewing brighter and overcome the previous technical limitations. Specifically, 3D viewing is possible with low-priced polarized glasses-translating into economical benefits for the consumers, while conventional 3D LCD panels usually require special viewing glasses which are costlier.

LG Display's CTO and Executive Vice-President In-Jae Chung said, "The display industry players are shifting their focus from two-dimensional to three-dimensional technologies in order to deliver more vibrant and true images. LG Display will step up development of 3D technologies and products to provide customers and consumers with differentiated value."

LG Display will showcase its new Full HD 23-inch 3D LCD panel with enhanced brightness and more during the upcoming Society for Information Displays(SID) 2009 in San Antonio, Texas U.S.A.

It look so fluid and thin in the picture but I rather get an led display with 120hz+ when it became affordable. LCD is so yesterday tech :rockout:

I don't know if this will ever be possible without graphics as your eyes are always going to see it as a flat surface. Those glasses don't look to bad though, almost like a normal pair.

I was just thinking of this the other day: Who would want to put some glasses on any time you sat down to game? Then I realized, pretty much any time I get in my car to drive, I put my sunglasses on. It's not that big of a deal (until I misplace them.) When you look around at the other people on the road, you notice that many people are wearing sunglasses.

Yeah I know what you mean. I just recently got a 24" asus monitor, and it's brighter than my 52" samsung lcd hd tv lol. I mean, it really does hurt to watch it at night. I turned the brightness and contrast down a lot and it still seems too bright.

Nice, polarized "glasses" are like $2.

And for the brightness thing. 3D displays have been half the brightness than normal LCDs, hence why they make a big deal out of it. But the low brightness is just a good think like people before me mentioned. I'm on 10% brightness with my LG :)

This could also be a lot cheaper than the previous ones, as it doesn't have two liquid crystal panels. Just wonder if it'll have effectively 30hz and flicker?

3D is possible without glasses, you just need to show a differnet image to each eye. Some do it now with a lens on the surface by steering every other pixel so that they are only visible to one eye. This method has a very small viewing angle though.

I would be interested in knowing exactly how they polarize the pixels though on this panel.

3D would be cool i remember seeing the U2 one that was live at the cinemas and thought it amazing to see it was like you were actually there. Course youd need the glasses but damn that was awesome.

I've seen a few of those 3D monitors without the use of glasses, but the issue is you have to stand a certain distance back, PLUS the resolution isnt so great.

The ones you saw must have been HD but not Full HD, Full HD 1080p would look tight even on a 50" 1920x1080..... HD resolutions at 13xxX766 just looks fugly imo and not worth it.
