The AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 was a desktop processor with 1 core, launched in October 2004, at an MSRP of $827. It is part of the Athlon 64 FX lineup, using the San Diego architecture with Socket 939. Athlon 64 FX-55 has 1 MB of L2 cache and operates at 2.6 GHz. AMD is building the Athlon 64 FX-55 on a 90 nm production process using 114 million transistors. The multiplier is locked on Athlon 64 FX-55, which limits its overclocking capabilities. With a TDP of 104 W, the Athlon 64 FX-55 consumes a good deal of power, so decent cooling is needed. AMD's processor supports DDR1 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 400 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. Although the processor doesn't come with integrated graphics, certain motherboards with compatible chipsets can provide this capability. Inside the box you will not only find the processor, but also a Yes cooler. The SSE4 instruction set is not supported, which can cause problems with modern games, as they require that capability.
